Yea..love my fishy oil.
Ok, silliness aside, I have to prod folks to look into this stuff. Why? Well all the EFA goodness in flax, is in fish oil in a more readilly usable form..
...it also keeps your poop moving pretty good. (IMHO, this is the best reason to eat anything )
Google it and make your own judgements, but I am now a 6g a day guy..
Never tried it, wonder if it's got a lot of mercury or heavy metals? Fish is so expensive though, the oil might be a cheaper source. Love that salmon and tuna sashimi, though. Lately, I've been munching on almond sliced. Not sure if they are raw or roasted, but right after a liquid, just a few seem to help me feel full for a while.

Hijack -- Dave, won't they let you fish in Japan? All the free salmon you could want is available in Alaska for anyone who will stand in the river long enough. My freezer is pretty empty now, as the runs are in the summer and we've eaten most of our summer catch. I got lots of moose left though. You gotta love those Omega-3 fatty acids!

I'm old enough to have been given 'Cod Liver Oil' regularly as a child....Eeeeckhhh!!!
I still have that knee jerk reaction to the words Fish and Oil in the same sentence....
I do Eat Lots of Fish however....and flaxseed meal, but I don't do the oil capsules of either....
May be my "Whole Foods" approach, or just cause I don't get around to it...Most likely.
I do love grilled Salmon!!!! Even Mackerel or sardines- (extra Calcium)
And I cook and prep salads and such with odd oils- Walnut, Sesame, Safflower, etc...

I have been on 3 grams Omega-3 fish oil for about 5 months now. It does have many many health benefits. It has a lot of cardiovascular benefits, as well as acting as a mild antidepressant, great for your skin and hair, as well as your digestive tract. It has been shown that bipolar disorder can be controlled in children with the exclusive use of Omega-3. While whole foods would be the ideal way to get enough Omega in your diet, it would be difficult to get enough Omega without supplements. As well as mood and heart benefits, as has been said it does keep the plumbing in working order.
I agree, Coromega is a great alternative to capsules or liquid. I am going to switch to coromega after my LAP-Band surgery. They just came out with a lemon-lime flavor which is pretty tasty. The great thing about coromega is no fish burps.

I've been "prescribed" fish oil by everyone from my eye doctor to my chiropractor, it's the latest trend in medicine.
Paul is completely correct, it has many, many benefits, and you just can't get enough of it in your normal diet (unless you eat a lot of fish, everyday).
High doses of fish oil are now being used by pain management doctors, because fish oil helps reduce inflamation (not just coronary) in your entire body, and it helps keep the joint areas well lubricated (apparently there is a thin layer in every joint that is very "slippery", the fish oil helps keep this intact).
Just like the joints, the eye has a very thin layer on top that keeps it moist....my eye doctor highly recommended fish oil because it helps support this layer and "cure" dry eyes.
The latest research in psychology suggests that 2500 mg of fish oil (minimum) a day is a mood enhancer, and a mild anti depressant.
Also it is commonly believed that fish oil helps raise HDL (good cholesterol) levels. Good cholesterol works like the "anti" cholesterol. It transports bad cholesterol out of your arteries back to your liver.
I really have to get on the band wagon and take more fish oil...I take 2 oil caps a day, but as a DSer I probably need to double that because of the malabsorbtion factor.
A little tip for those who don't like to burp fish oil...keep the gel caps in your freezer, and swallow them like that.....that way you don't burp the fish oil.
