By late summer I would like to be able to lift my big ass from the lake into my fishing boat without the assistance of a crane. I have a long way to go strengh wise, but could use some advice on getting really strong fast. I have been lifting now for about 6 weeks or so and usually do 3x10 reps of lighter weights. My question is: should I up the weights and lower the reps? And what excercises will help me meet my goal. I see a lot of guys doing like a shoulder shrug excercise with dumbells. Is that a good one? Also it would be cool if my arms look really big. I think If I looked more intimidating the fish would have more respect for me and I would catch more. Thanks

http://www.startingstrength.com/ Its the website for a good book by Mark Rippetoe which covers just what you are looking for. As per the web page... "Starting Strength is a unique approach to coaching weight training, written by coaches and designed specifically for training beginners" The target audience is actually coaches, however even coaches have to be able to do what they coach..right? The entire program is based around 5 lifts and using them to make yourself stronger. (The squat, clean, bench press, deadlift and military press) ..and just like it says, it is a great start for starting strength.

Quick strength, I'd go with some steroids or perhaps, HGH. Kidding of course. Perhaps some dumbell presses or lat pull downs are in order. The other suggestions are good ones. Good luck Scott
