Thanks, guys! I guess, I'll just continue my little daily acts of degeneracy, self-indulgence and loss of control so as not to "go over the edge" big time in any way! Really interesting input. As you lose weigh****ch out for those over-achievers! Dave

I must have worked at the wrong NASA Center, 'cuz that kind of crap never happened at Langley. HQ in DC would have to come down once a week and poke us to see if we were still alive. The NASA culture is one where everyone is expected to be an Eagle Scout. Without taking a whole lot of time to explain it now, I can see where it'd happen, even at sleepy Langley Reasearch Center. I'll try tonight, when I'm at home.

Dave, I have seen it in the corporate world, too. However, it does seem to happen disproportionately in education. My wife is an administrator with our local school district, with almost 40,000 kids. It is one of the best school districts in the state. She tells me stories of teachers freaking out that make my head spin! We have seen it all in the last ten years. Murder, suicide, sex with students, drugs and other incredibly wreckless behavior. She could write a book. Why people self-destruct? There are a many reasons. However, this case seems to be over the top even for an astronaut. JP

JP, From what I have seen, when teachers get together, there is often this pretentious, squeaky clean exterior. This is fine for people who are really squeaky clean, but the others have to draw inside themselves, then implode. I'm sure the environment is only one factor, though. Dave
