Topic: Gastric Bypass with Psych Meds?
So I was accepted into the surgical weight loss program at Emerson Hospital in Concord as a candidate for the Lap-Band. I was told very firmly that RNY/bypass surgery was not an option for me, as I take psych meds and they might not be absorbed correctly. However, in a support community on another website, several people told me that they have had RNY while taking psych meds and that I should seek a second opinion, as I would prefer RNY or sleeve gastrectomy to the Lap-Band.

Has anyone here had RNY or sleeve gastrectomy while taking psych meds? If so, which program did you go to/who was your surgeon? I want to get a second opinion but it'd help if I knew which surgeons/programs would be most likely to help me out.

Thanks very much! :)

At one point we owed the IRS 15K and when I tried to make payment arrangements with them, they were not accommodating at all, and told me I SHOULD be able to pay X amount each month.  I literally cried b/c there was NO WAY that I could.  I called a tax atty, and he said I didn't owe enough to use his help but he would give me a piece of advice... and it worked so I will pass it on to you...

He said if you owe under 25K, they HAVE to allow you to pay it off over (I think it was 5 years), so if the amount they tell you they need from you each month is more than you can afford.  Tell them, you can only pay X (figure it out before you call them), if they refuse tell them you need to be placed with a "case manager", it is someone who will work directly on your account.  This worked for us and we paid it all back, but it took some money off each month that helped make it doable for us.  Good luck, it is the worst feeling to owe them, I know!

Topic: Read Your Mail ...... It Could Be Important !!

I hate opening mail -- 99 out of a 100 times it's a bill or some other bad news.

Last .week I got mail from Network Health -- good news and bad news.  Monthly premium went down from $56.88 to $39.00 - the good news.  Now the bad news -- Hospital coverages have changed.  St. Vincent Hospital a/k/a Med City Worcester is no longer affiliated with Network Health.  Thank goodness I chose UMass Medical Center for my surgery.  But it just makes me realize it's important to keep up to date on my mail.  (The other bad news mail I received was from the IRS - I owe money !  I had contacted a credit card company last year and had an outsanding bill reduced from about $6,000 to $2,000.  Unfortunately, the $4,000 they "wrote off" is considered income.  So I have to call the IRS about the payment they say I owe - don't know how I'll manage paying - I'm on Social Security Disability now and my yearly income has dropped about $35,000 a year.

Have a good day everyone!

Yes indeed it sounds like GERD...
Reasons why???
could be eating too fast
spicy foods?
keep track of what you eat when this occurs I have had GERD my entire life....and still have it... someimes I have to take nexium twice a day to get it back under control...I always take it at least once a day.  for me acidic foods and any junkie like food inflames it for me....
anyhow I hope this is helpful

Just had to pop in and update...the scale STILL hasn't moved (12 days now), but it's cooler today, so I put on my jeans and then realized I could pull them down easily (fully fastened)!!! And I'm wearing a bra that I couldn't wear a couple of months ago.

I don't know how that's possible, but I'll take it ;)

Don't beat yourself up .. you are only 4 months out!  Stall are NORMAL!! :)  TRUST ME ... those 30lbs will be off before you know it.  The majority of weight loss occurs within the first 18 months and you are only 4 months out.  You are doing just great

I personally havent done this, but Ive read from most people that stall, they will start a diet as if they just had surgery, with liquids, then mushies, then to more solids. It normally kicks their stall in the butt and they start to lose again.  Hope it helps?

Hi Kelly!

Thanks! Yes I look at my being at home now as a good thing, a chance to focus more on exercising and spending time with my family. I hope to find a job soon though!

You WILL run into stalls. I had quite a few of them. I'm actually having one right now! Been at the same weight for about 2 weeks. I know the weight loss will slow down eventually and I have to put more effort into it (working out, more protein, etc). I lost a good amount the first 2 months - 50lbs to be exact! I was required to be on liquids for 3 weeks straight after surgery. That was a major factor. Then week 4 I went onto soft foods and week 5 onto foods with more texture. By week 6 I was eating normal food.

Yes, not eating enough protein or drinking water will result in slower weight loss. My nutritionist has mentioned this. To date, I've been doing lots of walking, biking and jogging. Can't afford to join a gym but would love to down the road. I still haven't found a protein shake or powder that I can down without gagging. I try my best to meet my protein goal daily by food intake. Some days it's easy, some days it's not. I don't ever feel hungry so I have to always keep an eye on the clock to eat!

When in doubt, just talk to your nutritionist for suggestions. I always reach out to mine via email and she's excellent about getting back to me. Good luck on your journey! You're doing great thus far!
