Topic: RE: Getting nervous and having second thoughts
Oh it is so normal to feel that way. I am a bit over three years out. I can say that it is the best thing I could have done for myself and I too have two little ones...they are WHY I did this...I wanted to live with them and not be sidelined by this body.
I have lost 145 pounds with no regain. I will say that I had to have my Gallbladder out a year out and I have some issues with going low blood sugar...like LOW...but I was on a death path...now I have a clear path of LIFE and could not be happier!!!
Do it and you wont regret it. I dont know anyone who would say differently!! GOOD LUCK and GODSPEED

I had Dr. Sunny Shaw at Tufts. She is really a great doctor. I also go to a Weight Loss Support Group for people that either have had the surgery or are considering it in Bridgewater. I went there before my surgery and it was very helpful. You hear the good and bad, people that have had everything go smooth and people that have had complications. All of my family were against me having it, but now I am 15 months out and don't regret a thing. I haven't been a size 6 since I was in 7th grade. I feel 35 now not 53. Good luck with your decision.
Topic: Anyone currently with the Emerson SWL Program?
Hi,
I am looking for people that have participated in the Emerson Hospital SWL Program prior to October 2011 and are presently in the program. Has anyone had concerns with the recent changes in the program?

Topic: RE: Masshole Roll Call!
Hey everyone, I am Chris and I am from and currently living in Chelmsford, MA. I had my surgery in October of 2009. I went from 325 to 175 in about a year. Never thought I would say this but I was tooooo skinny. Thankfully I have gained a little bit back and I am maintaining a weight of 200lbs. now. I didnt really have any complications, except for the tears at first, thinkikng I would never be able to eat again, and " WHY DID I DO THIS!!!" But that quickly went away and I have never been happier. I will admit I havent been exercising enough and that needs to change. Once this foot heals I hope to start back at the gym and start packing on some muscle. Good luck everyone.
Topic: Lap Band at Tufts Medical Center?
Hi, I am new to the group. I was wondering if anyone has gone through the lap band procedure at Tufts medical. I recently have had appointments with them and they seem to really not care for the lap band. I am trying to determine if this procedure is right for me, and I would love to hear what your expereinces were like. Thanks : )
Topic: New to OH, Just saying Hi.
So my husband and I recently made the decision that I would go ahead with WLS after going to a clinic for over a year and a half and trying various treatment methods with no success. We made the decision on 10/12/11, and my surgery is scheduled for 12/7/11. I will be having the vertical sleeve gastrectomy at Mass General. My story seems to be the opposite of most in that once we decided on surgery, things are moving very quickly, so I haven't had very long to process everything. However, it took me a very long time to come to this decision, mainly because of all the negative associations people have with it and my own doubts about whether or not I would be able to stand not being able to eat my favorite foods like I was used to. Now those doubts have shifted more to nerves and the associations fell by the wayside when no other treatments worked and I realized that this may be my only option if I wanted to reach my health and pregnancy goals sometime in this life.
Anyway, that is the short version of my story. Just thought I would pop in and say Hi to all the locals here on OH.

Hi I think we all go through that real nervous/anxious stage about the surgery. I know I did!! But, I woke up fine..I honestly cant even remember the pain now and I'm almost 6 months out now and have lost 77lbs all together w/the 2 week diet prior. I feel great. Gone is the gerd and swollen legs and high blood pressure and I'm in a size 12 from 20!!! I 34 and have 2 kids. The only problem I had, was lactose intolerant right after for about a month ( took many many protien shakes to figure out i needed a juice one instead). Now my problem is if I eat alot of food w/sugars in them I get sick but thats my own fault I shouldn't be eating them!!!! LOL I had mine at Roger Williams and they were awesome!!! I don't know anyone whose had it done at Tufts ..sorry. You might want to try the RNY board also they are so very helpful (if rny is what you are doing)

Topic: New Member and looking for info
Hi. My name is Erin. I am just starting out in making the decision to have surgery. I am really nervous about this decision and all the possibilities and choices. I am considering going to an informational session later this month at Tufts Medical Center. I will be seeing my primary care physician on Thursday. Should I tell her about the information session and ask her opinion? She has mentioned weight loss surgery to me before, two years ago.
I am also concerned about discussing these issues with my parents, my mother in particular. She has said things to me in the past that suggest that she is not really in favor of WLS. I know she fears complications and things like that. Does anybody have tips on talking to family members?
I live just outside of Boston, so I would like to find a surgeon in the city. Who are some good surgeons that you know?
Any advice would be helpful.

Topic: Getting nervous and having second thoughts
Hi,
I am having my surgery in a few weeks and I am starting to get real nervous and have second thoughts. I am not so nervous for the surgery, I feel or at least I hope I will make it through okay. It's after the surgery that I am nervous about. I have been reading so many stories about hernia, bowel obstructions etc. What will life be like 10 or 20 years out. I have two small children and I am starting to have second thoughts about doing this. I want it so badly, but now I am getting scared. Any advice from people who have been there and are newly out of surgery, a few months out and even years out would be great. Thanks! I am having it done at Tufts so if anyone has had it there too, any words of wisdom would be great.
