Topic: Seeking referrals to revision surgeon on North Shore

I'll probably end of going to Boston for my revision from VSG to bypass, but thought I'd ask here if anyone had surgery on the North Shore and was pleased! Many thanks in advance.

If they required you to quit smoking, quit now. There are a LOT of serious consequences when recovering from surgery if you are a smoker. It puts your life in jeopardy. Your doctor will likely give you a nicotine test the morning of surgery, and if you test positive, they will not operate. The same goes for e-cigs, patches, and gums. Anything with nicotine in it is dangerous and will cause you to flunk the test.

This may be hard, but it is for your own safety. Good luck.

The only major revision is to DS. It is extremely complicated and dangerous. They essentially put everything back the way it was originally, then do a VSG, then reroute your intestines. There are about 5 surgeons in the US that have experience doing this. With anyone else, you'd be risking your life. Seriously.

There are other "fixes" offered for RNY. Stoma fixes, converting a proximal to a distal RNY. Most end up with very little weight loss,  or get horrible side effects.

Forget about revision for now. Go see a really good surgeon. Do some sxabs and a scope, and see what condition your innards are in. See exactly how your surgery is holding up. I know you won't want to hear this, but if your pouch is still in good shape, another surgery isn't going to help.

Good luck.

Topic: Revision Surgery

Hello all,

I had gastric bypass in November of 2003 and lost almost 200lbs. Almost 13 years later, over the years, I've gained almost 100lbs back. I can tell you lots of excuses (deaths, stress, etc.) and now I'm thinking about revision surgery. I tried 5 day pouch, back to basics, and all kids of diets and exercise but can't seem to get this weight off. My back and knees are starting to hurt again and I need relief. Does anyone know if it's possible to get a revision surgery if I had RNY surgery? Also, has anyone had experience obtaining a revision surgery with Harvard Pilgrim?

Any help would be great!
