Hi Bridget,
I had my surgery at Lahey, so I don't have any info on surgeons at Mass General, but I just wanted to say Hi and wish you well with your weight loss journey.
I had my surgery 11 weeks ago (I'm still counting in weeks!) and I've lost 50 pounds post surgery and 50 pre-surgery. I am so happy with my decision to have the surgery, and wanted to encourage you.
best wishes,
Carol

Hi,
Has anyone had surgery done by Dr. Gee? I originally wanted Dr. Pratt but they've assigned me to Dr. Gee. I 've looked her up and her reviews are ok but my God she looks so young!
Thanks,
Bridget
I was at a 40 bmi with no co morbidities and my insurance approved me. I had BcBs. It took 6 months from start to have surgery.
Hi,
I have the sleeve and I'm really happy with it. The advantages of the sleeve are: that you don't mess with the intestines. Your pylori valve is still in place, and working (at the base of the tummy). Much of the stomach is removed which means less of the hormone gherin that causes hunger. Also I did not like the idea of dumping syndrome, and I was concerned about the long-term impact of the mal-absorption. So the sleeve was a good fit for me.
From what I understand, you can regain weight with either the bypass or the sleeve. Its really about following the diet and exercise plan rather than the type of surgery.
One other thought. I also craved sweets ferociously. I found that if I keep my carbs low, the cravings go away after a few days. You might give it a try. It was almost miraculous how much better I was able to comply with my diet if I kept my carb intake really low.
Best of luck with your weight loss journey. I wish you well with this decision.

Hi,
I believe the guidelines for weight loss surgery are If you have a BMI over 40, or over 35 with co-morbidities. So you should have no problem qualifying.
Best of luck with your weight loss journey. It is an adventure, and I think you'll be so glad you did it.

Im new here and im looking to get gastric bypass. Ive gone to some information sessions at Beth Israel deaconess medical center. Ive also completed some mandatory appointments such as: blood test, abdominal/gallbladder ultrasound, sleep study, nutritionist and psychological visit. Next week I have my last set of appointments which consists of an EKG, meeting the nurse and last but not least the medical director.
Im beginning to get nervous about whether or not ill be approved. I don't have any Comorbidities like high blood pressure or diabetes, if anything I have an arthritic ankle. Im still waiting on my sleep study results to know if I have sleep apnea or not. I guess what im getting at is this: is having a high BMI considered medically necessary? I have a BMI of 51.3 and have network health forward for insurance. Ive called them and from what I gather my surgery has to be medically necessary to be approved.
Any thoughts or answers to my questions and concerns would be most appreciated. Thank you
