Topic: RE: Frustrated about protein and eating
Someone had suggested to me also to try Nonfat Dry milk and mix some into my foods to get some protein that way.  I picked some up at the market tonight and 1/4 of the envelope has 8 g of protein.  I mixed some into my sf pudding tonight to see how the texture/taste is.  It made the pudding a little thick and slightly lumpy but once I put in in my mouth the little lumps break right down.  I just know that protein powder makes me feel sick to my stomach.

Thanks for the replies I do appreciate it and keep any ideas coming.

Yeah, I can't speak to what other surgeons do, but we are luc ky that we can trust our surgeons have faith and research in their choices for us.  if nothing else, if their patients had adverse reactions they would change protocol.

Sorry about your hospital stay!  I didn't love mine, but I had wonderful nurses and little to complain about.  Thankfully you are home now, and hopefully feeling better every day!

Thanks so much Sue!  I was meaning to get in touch.  I called the office and told them I was only concerned because it seemed to deviate from the main and one of the nurses said "2 weeks of fluids?!  We would never do that to anyone!"  I think they follow research very closely and know that their work will not leak - at least I have a sense Dr. P does.  I don't know the others well enough to say.  I've been pureeing crustless quiche etc and doing just fine.  My hospital stay sucked, but other than that I couldn't be happier!

Topic: A little about me - Northshore support group
Hi to all the Northshore members,

I know what you are all thinking "Gee, she had her surgery in 2006, why isn't she at her goal"?

Well, first of all my starting weight was 314 lbs not 268,  Back when I had my consultation in 2005, the nutritionist and the surgical team thought that I should have the RNY.  Why, because I have a sugar addition.  With the lapband the sugar products go right through the band with no problem.  do  not regret having the band because I cannot eat food like I use to.  I can't eat at McDonalds.  I can't even finish have a kid's meal.   I can't eat subs, some proteins but give me sugar, forget it no problem.

This support group will be for post op members that are having issues that they would like to talk about and be there for each other.  I am not an expert by all means.  I can answer nutrition questions and other simple ones.  I am training and have documents for various questionns that you need answered.

So, please let's me there for each other.  We need it.

Thanks for reading this message

IT DOES GET BETTER!!!
I know when I heard that in the begining I was like NO ITS NOT...you can't possibly know how I feel....
BUT...it did.  At that stage it was taking me and my wife over an hour to eat 3oz of protein, the first 2-3 months are tough...you WILL get through it!!!!
Do you like B&M baked beans?  a nice soft protien, easily to take in, good amount protein, also eggs, etc.  Meat was so tough...and sometimes still is...especially chicken. i ahd an easier time with very lean hamburger...like mixed like taco meat...
Sorry your having a tough time....just temporary!!!
Hang in there

I had NO PROBLEM with the Newton Wellesley diet after surgery.  Just take it slow and thin things out if you have trouble, but you'll be fine and glad you aren't stuck on clear liquids like other folks are directed to.

Hi,

I am sorry you are having a hard time with your protein.  I have Isopure Zero carb vanilla.  I buy it on naturesbest.com for about $35.00.

I mix mine with diet tonic.  Orange, like a creamsicle, Root beer, like a rootbear float.  Any flavor you want.  I know it is difficult to drink tonic but mixing it with the Isopure the carbination goes away.  I pour my tonic about a 1/2 to 1 hour before so the carbination goes away.  If you like sweet that is the way to go.
