Topic: RE: Finally told my boss
I work in a tiny office, there are just 5 of us.  They care so I knew they would ask what I was doing and hopefully it's going to be pretty obvious when I start dropping the weight.. so why not just fess up now.  I can understand NOT telling though especially if it's a big company, and I wouldn't have told if that was the situation.  I plan to only take two weeks off.  I would love 3 but I'm the bread winner, my boyfriend is a seasonal worker (landscape.. he does plow in the winter but you can't depend on that!)  and that's really all I can afford because I still want to take time off this summer.... plus this place will fall apart if I'm gone for more than 2 weeks!  I sit on my butt all day so it's not too taxing.. I figure if I get super tired I can just cut my days short by a few hours if need be, they are really flexible here!  How you feeling??

Yay, congrats on that hurdle!
I told my boss I was having surgery but never what I was actually
doing. Any idea how much tome you'll take off? I was approved for six weeks off but going back after four... probably could have gone back this week. Looking forward to getting back into the swing of things!!!

Topic: RE: South Shore Group
Hi!!  We have a great group ... usually about 20 people come to each meeting.  Always great to have new faces....... here is the info I copied from a post a few weeks back:

Our next meeting is Monday, Feb 28th at 630pm !!

Last Monday of every month at 6:30pm. We meet at Faith Chapel Church in Bridgewater, 340 Pleasant St., which is Rt 104. (We are not a religious group, just a free place to meet!)

We are VERY informal and have about 34 members. A good 20 show up each week and we are starting to not fit inside the church's classroom anymore! We are currently looking for a bigger place to meet but have not found anything yet.

We talk about everything and tend to go on tangents alot LOL. Sometimes members will bake some WLS friendly grub and bring it to share. If people have WLS friendly food, powders, vitamins they don't want people will bring them to give to other people to try. Companies sometimes send Lisa samples as well and we get to try them out at the meetings.

We get together alot and do fun outings together (whether it be a 5k race, a walk around Castle Island in Boston, obviously in warmer weather lol, or simply catch a movie) and see each other regularly outside of meetings.

There are 6 of us who also attend Flower's meeting in Quincy.  That might be close for you as well :)  We are mostly women and have a faithful 3-4 men who come to each meeting. Children are also welcome to come to the meetings as well!  We meet in a classroom so there is plenty for them to do.  Our friends Karrie & Julie bring their 5 year old, Ella, to every meeting!

i agree with getting samples of all kinds of protein drinks - ready made and powders and give 'em a try before surgery.

I did de-caffeinate myself before surgery, by slowly mixing regular and decaf until I was all decaf for a week or more before surgery.  It made everything a lot easier.

Start now on chewing your food a lot, slowing down how fast you eat, and not drinking with your meals.  These are big tickets to success!

Topic: RE: Pre-Op-ish Diet
I got lots of samples of vitamins and protein. I got so many free samples I try a different multi everyday for flavor sake!  I know my taste can change after the surgery but I have to have something to have right after might as well start with something I like now.  And I still have a lot of samples to try later after surgery.  I'm going to go with the ENS vitamins in cake batter flavor to start with.  I have tried a bunch of protein shakes I like click the best but can't have that for awhile since it has caffeine but it sure is yummy!

I HATE all artifical sugar food and drinks that I've tried in the past so I've been trying lots and lots of them so I can have something I won't gag on after surgery.  The only three drinks I like are Fuze slenderize, Vitamin water zero and I actually really like SOBE lifewater, no aftertaste once so ever and the flavors are good! I've also tried some yogurts and surgar free jellos and such..

I have never been a coffee drinker but I do like soda.. I've stopped drinking all soda.  I think it's best to stop before otherwise it would be so hard after, atleast now I could do it gradually.  If you drink a lot of coffee in the am I think you might want to stop doing that or you will have headaches.

My surgery is 4 weeks away, I have to do a 2 week preop liquid diet, I already do 1 or 2 meal replacement shakes a day.. just to get used to it.. because now if I'm starving I can eat something else! but atleast it's a step in the right direction.  And I  honestly don't miss anything.. it's weird I have an entirely different view of food.. I'm not thinking about it constantly anymore!! I'm thinking about size 6 low rise jeans instead! lol

good luck!

So... I don't have my surgery booked yet and it may be a couple months yet.  Do you think I should be trying some post-op type stuff to see what I like?

Did people try to get completely off caffeine before getting the surgery?  I'm a caffeine fanatic and don't know how to stop!  :)

Any ideas about how to plan and change this far out would be wonderful!  Thank you!

Topic: Dr. Lautz - Consultation vs Actual Surgery Date
Hi All!

I'm new to the board and am so looking forward to my journey... I have taken 5 of the requisite 6 classes and have my consultation with Dr. Lautz at the Brigham on 3/10/11.  For those that have had him as their surgeon, how long is it from consultation to actual surgery date?

I'm trying to plan ahead for work (and childcare purposes) but don't want to seem pushy to the office.

If I could have the surgery done yesterday I totally would.  :)
