Topic: RE: BCBS of MA (PPO) Requirements
I'm on BCBS MA, but the HMO plan. My doctors said that it's one of the easiest insurance companies to deal with. I had NO required 6 month waiting period (although, it ended up being 5 mo from the time of my first appointment until my surgery, as I was slow to lose the weight my surgeon required pre-op). They didn't require documentation of attempts to lose weight. The whole process was very easy; I was approved by insurance almost immediately,
I would call them, just to be sure the PPO isn't different and that nothing's changed (I got my approval in 2010, and I know some plans changed although mine did not). But I would definitely jump at the chance to switch to BCBS in general... I've had several insurance companies over the years, and I personally think this one is the best.

Topic: BCBS of MA (PPO) Requirements
Hi everyone,
I unfortunately just lost my job and am completing my six months of pre-op classes in March. We're thinking of switching our insurance, but b/c I'm at the six month of my classes I want to make sure BCBS MA PPO will cover the surgery. I have Aetna now and can go on COBRA but it will be very expensive.
So do other BCBS people have to complete the six months pre-op? Do you think all of these classes I've been taking will count toward it if I switch? I feel like it should considering I haven't submitted anything to the insureance company yet.
Argh, what a disaster...

Oh Liana,
I am so proud of you. I was just about to check in with you. Then I saw your post.
Don't worry the pain will go away and all the other things. I can tell you that I don't know how you really feel because I have the band.
Talk to you soon and hang in there.

Topic: RE: Birth Control after RNY?
I'm surprised ur required to have two birth controls. I'm not required to take anything. I don't like them so my dr said just be safe and use condoms. Mirena sounds great but check studies on long term effects. A friend had it in for the five years and is now struggling to get pregnant..it cud be for many reasons but her dr said one could be from long term birth control. Just do ur research and be careful. And just use condoms as a backup until u make an informed decision otherwise. We don't want an uh oh pregnancy just a month out of surgery for u! Good lucky hun!

Topic: post op appt!
I had my post op appt yesterday and I'm proud to say I am down 27 lbs from three weeks ago at my highest weight. I'm not getting in quite enough liquids and the pain sucks but I feel good about the loss. I just wish the nausea would go away and dr said I should try scrambled eggs soon but to first get in all 3 shakes a day (I do maybe 1 a day now...milk upsets my tummy). So there's my update. Xoxo

Topic: RE: Bariatric therapists???
I fond my therapist who specializes in eating disorders through my dietician that I have been seeing for almost 4 years now. Are you seeing a dietician? This would be a good source.
I find it is well worth the trip to travel for a support group. I live on Cape Cod (Orleans) and travel to Boston twice a month for groups (when I can). It entails leaving work about 2:30 for a 6:00 meeting to allow myself time to travel, get in a walk before the meeting and maybe get a quick bite to eat.
I go to Tufts and love dealing with Dr. Stephanie Powers. She is awesome!
Consider giving the distance a try. You'll be glad to have the support.
