I am thinking about taking Cigna for insurance. Does anyone have this insurance and how is it. Any problems with trying to get them to pay for the surgery? Where is a good place to go to have the surgery? Right now I have Fallon and the process is so long and plus I want a surgeon whose main surgery is the weightloss surgery. I am from Spencer but I dont mind traveling. Thank you Amy

depends on what type of surgery, and also depends on what your employer allows for WLS under the Cigna. From my memory, Cigna requires the 6 mos supervised diet. Your best bet is to call the # on the back of your Cigna card on Monday and ask. Get a reference number to the call. Should they say NO..go to HR to verify that your employer's plan excludes the WLSurgery. Should your employer say..Yes we cover it...Ask for the HR person to call Cigna while you are there so it can squared away .....and get a reference number again. Don't count yourself out for Cigna...but You'll need to be in the driving seat. Joan

Thank you so much. I get the insurance through my husband so he is going to talk to HR tomorrow, if they dont cover it or it is going to be a pain then we will just stick with Fallon and wait my turn. Its loosing the 10% that is getting me. If I could loose weight then I wouldn't need the surgery... Amy

hi, I have bcbs of ma (elite). This is the best and easiest ins to deal with. I first saw my surgeon on june 24th had all of my diet documentation done although it wasn't required anyway was approved within 2 weeks and had surgery sept 5th. In less than a month I saw the Dr for the 1st time and had all work up done and had suregery so for anyone wanting to get an Ins to pay for WLS this is the one. Good luck jacquie

Amy, When I went to the informational meeting in June before surgery, the first thing they talked about was insurance requirements and said, specifically, "Cigna will not pay for any kind of weight loss surgery under any cir****tances, no exceptions, so I hope no one here has Cigna." My mother was told the same thing, and when I called a couple surgeons around here to ask about a consult, the first thing they asked was "Do you have Cigna? They will not pay." I think you would be better off sticking with Fallon. Carrie
