I had my surgery on 1/19 at NEMC. I was told to lose 40 lbs prior to surgery and I lost 30. I have heard stories of people having their dates postponed due to not enough weight lost.

My husband and I were both asked to lose 10% body weight. I didn't, but I lost some... he didn't, and his surgery was almost postponed or cancelled... they scared him into dropping some pounds immediately pre-op... b e t h 'For I was never so small as this before...,' thought Alice. 313/298/155/130 http://meltingmama.blogspot.com/

Dr. Lautz at the same office of Dr.Robinson does not require a weight loss, but requires a liquid diet for 2 weeks prior-and you'll loose some there. Dr.Vernon asks for a weight loss. Some people are borderline on their BMI--and are told not to drop weight or insurance wouldn't pay. I did diet before the surgery-from the time I had made up my mind for surgery. I was glad I did-however I am now loosing at a crawl-and I 'm sure it is because my body is adjusting. Although I can't complain--for I know these pounds will not come back! Good Luck--Joan F.

I wwas supposed to lose 40, I lost 27. I was told it was not just about the numbers but about the actual effort. If you yo-yo while pre-op it is worse than if you just don't lose. As long as I made the effort and kept my food journals it was ok.
