Re Sleep Apnea
Hi Debbie, I too have sleep apnea, or should I say HAD!!!!
I am 4 months post op and have stopped wearing that darn mask this past week! Just to try it and see what happens. And I may still snore lightly sometimes, I no longer hold my breath and I don't wake up 10 times a night because of it! I can tell because I'm not falling asleep at the wheel and am getting a good night sleep, without constantly interruping it with holding my breath.
Debbie there is a light at the end of the tunnel !!! good luck to you~ Mary

I had 3 sleep studies that were conclusive for mild sleep apenea. The last study left me feeling so much more alert the next day that I couldn't believe it. It took about a month for me to get the CPAP machine, bringing it up to about 2 weeks before my surgery. Couldn't stand the mask, kept taking it off during the night. Asked for nasal pillows instead but never got them prior to surgery and was told not to use the CPAP immediately after surgery as the pressure could be too great on the internal staple lines. So...... I have not used CPAP for over 6 weeks, sleep like a log, wake on my own at the same time each morning without an alarm and definitely do not have that groggy feeling I used to have. So I got a discontinue order from my surgeon yesterday and I am sending the thing back (especially since there is a rental fee not covered by insurance). This is just my story. I don't know how severe your sleep apnea is, how much weight you will be needing to lose to see a difference but there is hope that it may not be a permanent condition. You may also feel so much better using the CPAP that it will be worth it!
