I have been approved and I have a date!
I got my insurance approval today! The application was submitted in 08/19/04 and I finally caved in and called BCBS to check the status. A lady answered my call and put me on hold for a minute. 'One nail bitten to the quick' later, she came back and told me the approval was given less than an hour before my call. I was so happy I was literally gibbering and the poor woman must have thought she was dealing with a demented person. I am so ready for this! My surgery date is 09/14/04
Muka,
I wish you much success on your upcoming surgery.
I read your profile and thoroughly enjoyed it. You write eloquently.
You WILL NOT be sorry when you have your surgery. I read that your a physician, so I'm sure you have done your research and have educated yourself on this surgery.
I had my surgery on February 25, 2004 after many, many months of researching and going through the program at Mass General Hospital. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. I feel wonderful. I had lab RNY. This surgery is an incredile tool. I'm six months out now and can eat a lot more than I could in the beginning, but not half as much as I did before.
I had a luncheon at work today so for example for lunch I had a half of roast beef sandwich on wheat bread with mayo, a little marindated pea pods and a little tomotoe and mozzarella salad. Then a little while later I had 1/2 of pear. I'm so full and satisifed. There were lots more things at the luncheon - pasta and pototoe salads, chips, cookies, brownies etc. I would of eaten tons of that before and if I had eaten them today I would of been so full and uncomfortable its just not worth it.
We still have to make good choices. I've gone from a Size Women's 2X to a size 14! I find myself going to the Women's Department still and then have to turn around and go to the regular size department. Shopping is fun. I've gone from 266 to 190 in 6 months. Hope to get to 150 by the Spring.
Best wishes on September 14, 2004.
Kathleen
