I was asked the other day what type of surgery I was getting. Told them RNY, they again asked the same question. I then said.. The Gastrict bypass. They asked again.. I was like WTF!? Thinking in my head, "What did this guy not understand?"

So here's what I know...
Doc told and showed me 3-4 points where he will be going in at. Will be taking out most of the stomach leaving me with a 1 ounce pouch.

So I ask... what type of surgery is this?

If he is physically removing most of the stomach out of your body and leaving you with a 1 oz pouch / stomach could be vertical sleeve.  But I think they are usually between 3-5 ozs.  But if he is "cutting away" most of the stomach and leaving it there forming a 1 oz pouch sounds like the RNY.

I have not had either surgery (yet) but that is my understanding from what I have read.  See what others say.

what she said.  :)

I had a RNY, which means I have a small pouch, but the "leftover" stomach is still inside of me.  Also, some of my intestines were removed, thus "bypassed", which is why RNY is also called Gastric Bypass.

Vertical Gastric Sleeve procedures take the remaining stomach out and I don't believe they bypass the intestines.

It's 'laparoscopic'. It's a 'laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass. You're not getting open surgery if your doctor is entering in multiple small points.
