Anyone else here have/ had an anastamotic ulcer?? I'm looking for some advice like what did they put you on and what instructions did they give you! Where there foods you couldn't eat and anything that soothed it or made it feel a little better?? I am barely eating or drinking because of the pain and nausea. Need some advice. And btw my surgeon isn't even following me for this, he referred me to my GI specialist for follow up care!!!!!!!!!

You're probably lucky he isn't - surgeons are just that, surgeons - they like to cut but usually don't do much else. That is why most bariatric programs follow a team approach - medical doctor, nutritionist, social worker, nurses and the surgeon. Although I think yours is especially incompetent, I wouldn't take nutrition advise from mine.

I can't offer any advice but I hope you feel better soon.

Wow, I so know what you mean.  The only difference is that I can drink.  I just can't drink protein shakes, but my regular drinking is okay.

I saw the nurse for a followup visit the other day and she mentioned that I might have that since I am nauseated a lot.  At first I didn't believe her until I read about it and realized that it really is anytime I eat.  She told me to double up on my Protonix if I realize that I am sick on most anything I eat and that will hopefully help.  I didn't really discuss it too much with her since I didn't think that was it, but yesterday when I was sick all day, I did take another Protonix quite a bit prior to  dinner.  I am going to continue and see how that works.

Be sure to talk to your GI doctor and see what he recommends though.  Everyone is different and each medicine has a different limit on its dosing.

I hope you feel better soon.  :)

Hey Charlotte

So the treatment for the ulcer is to take your PPI (protonix, prevacid, omeprazole, nexium) twice a day FAITHFULLY...no ibuprophen, quit the buts because yes it is a big cause of ulcer in WLS and even people who are not WLS, also carafate (prescription) is a GREAT drug you take it before meals 4 times a day,,,it coats the pouch
if you do not have these meds...call and ask your doctor for a script.
Hope you feel well soon...
