During the OAC’s 5th Annual reception, hosted in conjunction with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) 27th Annual Meeting, the OAC recognized select OAC Chairman’s Council members for their outstanding support and the OAC’s newly unveiled initiative to grow their membership to 50,000 members by June 2011.

Unveiled during this year’s ASMBS Annual Meeting, the OAC set a strong goal to reach 50,000 members by June 2011. An increase in membership will allow the OAC to have a stronger political voice to impact positive change throughout society and provide the OAC with the necessary resources to proactively combat obesity and eradicate weight stigma/bias.

“The OAC is extremely grateful for the generous support of our Chairman’s Council members. The high-level support that each of these companies/practices provide greatly enhances the OAC’s ability to continue providing educational resources, advocating for access to care and representing all those affected by obesity throughout the United States," said Joe Nadglowski, OAC President and CEO.

The OAC recognized the following OAC Chairman’s Council members for their support throughout 2009-2010: Bariatric Advantage; Ethicon Endo-Surgery (EES); and New Life Center for Bariatric Surgery. As a proud partner in the Walk from Obesity, the OAC also recognized the following 2010Walk from Obesity events for outstanding fundraising efforts: Houston, TX; Charlotte, NC; San Antonio, TX; New York City, NY; Little Rock, AR; Birmingham, AL; Slidell, LA; Bellevue, WA; Ventura, CA; Lowell, MA; Greater CT; and Kansas City, MO.

“Our Coalition is very proud to have such support from its Chairman’s Council members. I strongly encourage other companies and surgery practices to explore all the OAC has to offer. There are many benefits to being a Chairman’s Council member and I hope to see many new members join the OAC moving forward," said Barbara Thompson, OAC Chairman of the Board.

If you would like to learn more about membership in the OAC, please visit the OAC or EES booth in the exhibit hall to view a short video, sponsored by founding OAC Chairman’s Council member EES, which further details OAC membership.
