I would definately drag your husband to a support group meeting, let the other people who have gone through the surgeries to tell their stories, hearing it first hand may help.

As far as recoup time goes, everyone is different.  I was a conversion from a lapband to RNY which was also done laproscopically.  Surgery was on a Monday, I got out of the hospital on Thursday, I dont work but I go to school fulltime and went back to school driving (no pain meds) the very next Monday, I couldnt afford to miss anymore school, but I was fine, tired, but fine.

HI there -

I just joined this group too.  I had my surgery on 12/8.    Initially my husband was skeptical.   We have 3 small children - 5yrs, 2 yrs, and 5 months.   He felt I could do it the traditional way - diet.  When I pointed out that I have been dieting for the past 20 years and I'm at my heaviest weight ever he began to listen.   What he finally came to realize was that being overweight really impacted my particpation in my kids lives.   I didn't want to go to school events, didn't want to socialize with the neighbors and didn't want to have any pictures of me taken - none with my children in the last year.   I used to be confident and outgoing - ready for anything.    I used to look forward to playing with my kids outside now I have no energy.    He really noticed the change the weight had on my attitiude towards life and realized that I would not be happy at this weight.  He wanted a happy wife and happy mom so he supported my decision and even encouraged me when I was getting cold feet.

If you are anything like me you are participating in life at about 25 percent.   You deserve a full life and deserve to be with your kids and family 100 percent.

Good Luck!
