Hello All. This question is for anyone that has gone to the NWH CWLS. Do they require a special diet two weeks before the surgery?

Thanks,

Beth

Hi Beth,
I went there and I had Dr. Partridge as my primary surgeon but Dr. Gazmuri has been with me all along as well.  If you are refering to a liquid diet pre-op then no that is not a requirement.  You do need to follow the nutritionists guidelines pre-op so you are more successful after surgery.  Their one rule is that you can't gain weight pre-op.  If you have any questions about their program feel free to ask I have been through it and I know all about it.

Hi Beth-
Lisa is right there isn't a 2 week diet or even a bowel prep... just don't gain and you'll be fine

nope, nothing.  just eat "lite" the day before and don't eat after 8pm the night before.  They will cover all of this in your blended diet class and pre-op testing. whoo!

My fiance is having the surgery with Dr. Partridge, and I asked her if a glycogen-reduction diet was necessary; they claimed no.  Dr. Barry Greene (DC area) asked us to get on the glycogen-reduction diet which physically reduces the size of your liver which makes it easier to get to your stomach.

Essentially, the glycogen-reduction diet is an Atkins diet gone mad - no carbs, no alcohol, little fat.  The goal is to shrink your liver, not your belly.  I don't think it would hurt in any case.
