I Miss Tufts! Have Hit a Bump and am Kind of Undone

I love Tufts.  I started their program in February and all was smooth sailing.  About a month ago, I developed Optic Neuritis and bizarre feelings in my feet.  These can be indicators of MS.  I live closer to Lahey, so have started to get involved there re: internal medicine/PCP and the neuro I 'm going to see is in the MS department at Lahey.  BTW, my MRI didn't show MS, nor did a spinal MRI I had a couple of months ago to dx. herniated discs.  Still, I've got to see MS specialists.

I'm just so lost and sad.  Today I saw a doc  at Lahey who said I really do need to put the WLS on the back burner until the Optic Neuritis is figured out.

I know i'm just rambling.  I was so excited about my surgery.  Now that I'm involved w/ such an intensive workup at Lahey I'm just questioning everything (majorly peri-menopausal here -- that's the backdrop for everything.)

Some days,  I want to ditch Lahey and get ALL of my medical care at Tufts.  The next day I think I should stick w./ Lahey and move my WLS plans there -- BUT I bonded with Tufts, you know?

Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.  My inclination (tonight LOL) is to get on the phone with Tufts Weight and Wellness Center  tomorrow and reschedule my remaining appts right up to meeting the surgeon.  I miss it, I feel like I've fallen off the road I need to be on!

Personally I can't see what following through with you WLS appts. could do to harm anything - you may indeed need to hold on surgery - but if you feel like pursuing info. will keep you focused - i see no reason not too. You have a lot on your plate - and should you find the problems aren't severe or temporary you will not have lost any precious time to waiting - so long as you keep in mind that you may indeed have to wait if they find something !
Is there a reason you can't continue at Lahey for the Optic Neuritis and deal with Tufts for the WLS - best of both worlds ?!

I totally agree with Lisa.... I so now what you mean about bounding at Tufts everyone is so great and really make you comfortable it's real comfort.  Sorry but I have to say my opinion only but I totally feel the surgeons at Tufts are superb and would not want to go anywhere else

call or go see your primary care doc and see if he/she can help you navigate this decsion. perhaps they have a connection at either hospital that will help you feel attached to either hospital for your care.   I hope you feel better.

I think you should continue with Tufts. They have one of th ebest WLS programs in New England with HIGHLY qualified surgeons!  I am sorry to hear of your struggles and I hope it all falls into place.

Thanks everyone ... a lot of this has to do with just the turmoil of suddenly finding myself in a medical pipeline w/ all new docs (my PCP had to refer me to neurologists, etc.) and feeling lost at sea.

Also, it's no small help that my ungrateful daughter is home from college after her first year and it's one big pity party, she's so unhappy, I can't help her, etc.  It's all just a mess.

Oprah had a show just the other day (it was a repeat) of her struggle to get diagnosed for her thyroid issue. She recommends getting a medical advocate, someone who can help you navigate everything and make sure you are getting the right tests done etc and that all the doctors you have seen in the past have each others reports etc. Sounds like your family doc might be a good place to start so I agree with the above.

I too would continue at Tufts, you can always schedule the surgery for a later time. They have those monthly seminars at HOWL the 3rd Monday of the month and those are free and you can keep in touch that way if you finish up all the requirerments.
