Supplementing Vitamin D is very important.

While you get some via the sun, we as weight loss surgery post ops, in particular, need a little more (or a lot more, waving frantically!) than the sun provides.  There are plenty of Vite-D supplements available, in lower maintenance doses, typically with your calcium supplement, but if you require a higher dose to treat a Vitamin D deficiency, you can find D on it's own in pills, and in this new product from Bariatric Advantage, Liquid Vitamin D-3 10,000 IU.

Source - Bariatric Times:
Vitamin D is often called the “sunshine vitamin" for its complicated transformation into active vitamin from UV rays through skin. Risk for deficiency comes from decreased intake, fat malabsorption, age, and low sun exposure or darker skin.

One study has reported vitamin D as one of the most common deficiency states in RYGB.7

Symptoms of deficiency include rachitic tetany, muscle pain and spasms, weakness, bone pain, and a range of other symptoms. Vitamin D has seven identified forms, and new functions are continuously being discovered. Lab results for D25 and parathyroid hormone(PTH) can accurately identify vitamin D status. Recommended treatment for vitamin D deficiency is 50,000IU per week in conjunction with 1,000 to 1,500mg of calcium daily.

Maintenance levels are recommended between the Adequate Intake level (AI) per age group (200–600IU) and the UL of 2,000IU set by the Institute of Medicine, though it should be noted that there is evidence that levels up to 10,000IU are unlikely to produce toxicity in adults.8 800IU has been suggested to promote adequate vitamin D status and prevent deficiency.9 A set protocol is difficult to determine secondary to differences among individuals of age and skin color.

"Bariatric Advantage Liquid Vitamin D3 is designed to facilitate ease of dosing for those who need a high potency Vitamin D product. Our liquid vitamin D is a unique sugar-free formula of vitamin D3 in a suspension of medium chain triglycerides (MCTs). It is very pleasant tasting and offers the easy ability to dose either 10,000 IU (a full-dropper) or 5,000 IU of vitamin D. This is a great solution for those who need to maintain their vitamin D levels and support bone health."

The Liquid Vitamin D-3 comes in a dropper bottle, and you can take 1/2 or 1 dropper full to get 5K-10,000 IU of Vitamin D.  Simple, no?  You could also add it to a drink, but it's such a small amount, down the hatch is likely better, quicker and to the point.

Here goes:

Confession time.  I expected it to taste awful.  Not so.  It has no taste.  It's just vitamin D-3 in an healthy oil based suspension.  (Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCT's) are fats that are naturally found in coconut and palm kernel oil.  MCT's are more easily and rapidly digested than other types of fats, as they require lower amounts of enzymes and bile acids for intestinal absorption.

No taste, in fact I dropped it in my mouth, and set up my camera to take my picture to get a yuck face - it didn't happen.  *tiny celebration*

You could DEFINITELY add this to a drink and not notice anything if totally necessary.  Awesome.  This product would absolutely make it easier to get all the supplemental D we need.
