I have my surgical consult one week from today!

Hi there.

I am excited and nervous about my upcoming appointment with Dr. Kelly. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions to help me set my expectations about my appointment? Thank you all so much.

(I am down 20 pounds since January... I really hope that will help the appointment.)

hi Robyn,

I brought my husband along with me to my appointment. I figured that between the two of us we would remember the questions and hear the answers. I also told my surgeon, Rebecca Shore, that my sister was quite nervous about my surgery. She even offered to speak with my sister to allay her fear.

Ask about your history and any associated risks.

I had diabetes and found out that I might be on insulin in the hospital. I would have freaked if I had not known that might have been a possibility ahead of time. The insulin and all my diabetes pills (seven daily) stopped by the time I left the hospital.

thanks for your response!  I appreciate it.  My hubby can't get the day off, so I have to go by myself. But I will be sure to ask about my health history and any possible risks associated with my history.

well i went for the appt with my pcp about getting cleared from her about the sleep apnea thing and the heartburn that dr gitkind was concerned about and wanted checked out before he would agree to see me. well i had my appt on april 6th and ive been calling both the wc and pcp like twice a day and the dr's keep passing it off, "oh we gave her the message" "she's on vacation" "she already faxed dr gitkind" "she wont be in until tomorrow" and the wc hasnt received anything and its weird because my pcp has been wonderful and has NEVER dropped the ball on anything! so i really dont know whats going on... its frustrating though!

Let your doctor know how unresponsive the workers are being. Doctors have no clue unless their patients let them know.

i got a call from her assistant this morning. and she was like "we faxed it over... but i can do it again today probably" and i was like "well they never received it so please fax asap" and she was like "i can do it after 2" hmph better than nothing.
