what do I take with me?
I'll tell you what I used:
sample pack of Pond's face wash cloths
a small fan (drown out the hall noise)
a neck pillow - was great for sitting up in bed
baby spoon
cell phone
robe to cover my butt when walking
a pillow or blanket to hold against my belly in the car for the way home.
I wore comfy clothes in and wore the same ones home.
I brought magazines and a book - never picked them up.
Ipod - never touched it.

1st goal to be under 200. Done! 2nd goal to be just obese. Third goal is to be under 170 by Thanksgiving 2009. I Pray I can make it. I know the Lord will help me through this.

i took ear plugs and thank goodness i did....
a small table fan
very loose comfy clothes--i wore home what i wore in
house slippers that just slid on, nothing i had to bend over to put on
usual toiletries
couple of magazines (never read them)
i did not wear pj's while there, only the hospital gown and thank goodness because i got them soiled after having my heparin shots
chap stick/lip balm of some kind
cell phone and charger
pillow from home
pics of my family
personal phone book
a small table fan

My Ipod was my saving grace. It allowed me to relax and be able to sleep. There was construction on the unit and the first night all I heard was hammer's and saws.

SLIP on shoes are great....it hurts like hell to bend over to tie shoes.

after surgery, you may receive injections of heparin to help prevent blood clots. i believe most of the surgeons use them post-operatively, especially until you are up walking the halls. i took them until the day before i went home. they gave me huge bruises! postoperatively, you are a inreased risk for blood clots, thats why they place the compression stockings/boots, injections, and make you get up and walk around. staying in bed not moving will increase you chance of a blood clot. some patients that are at even greater risk of getting blood clots may be discharged on blood thinners as well.
