on the advice of my GYN, i switched to Mirena before my surgery and left the pill.  Mirena is perfect after surgery since any hormones used are absorbed where they are used, not in your digestive system.

Prior to surgery, I was taking the birth control pill.  As everyone after surgery, I was concerned about the ? of absorbtion of the pill.  I was reassured by my OB/GYN and my surgeon that there is no problem with absorbtion of the pill.  It is such a small pill.  As long as you take it at the same time (or close to) everyday, then you should be fine.  I am currently 10 months post-op and have been taking the pill since my surgery without any problems.  I most certainly haven't gotten pregnant :)
