Xpost - green poop

Yup, that's right, my poop is green.  A nice forest green in fact.  Some online searching has suggested that lots of greens in your diet can do this.  I have not done that.  I've also read that Iron supplements can do this if they are not fully absorbed.  Well, i did start taking iron.  WTF???  Am I not getting the iron??  Should i not take it at bed time?  OY VEY.

I'm going to call the dr. now that i see this is a recurring pattern and not just a one time greenie.  Would love to hear if others have encountered this.

Sue,

I had my first bit of salad last week and low and behold, the next day I had "greenish" poop.  Not dark forest green, but a tinge of grayish-green.  I do not take iron supplements (yet), but that could also have been a reason for your constipation - iron will do that.  Have your Dr. check your iron level - we know malabsorption is an issue post-RNY.  As for the color of your poop, don't worry about it unless it is pale yellowish-white - that is a sign of lack of nutrition... just be thankful you are pooping!

As for me, I had my first experience with stomach foam and vomiting last night.  I had taken my Protonix earlier in the day, but I think I just ate too much.  Since it was Christmas I did not write down a single thing I ate - and I have been religious about it since my surgery.  Live and learn!  Today I will be tracking everything and I plan on sticking mostly to protein drinks.

when i went through a stage of drinking a LOT of grape crystal light, it turned my poop green. Don't know how you can make purple turn into green, but it happened to me, and someone else a long time ago posted something about that happening to them as well.

are you drinking grape crystal light?

nope...of all the things i read could cause this, iron supplements are the only that i'm involved with.

You can't absorb 100% of the iron that you take as a supplement; some of it remains behind in the stool.  This is normal.

You're taking it with a few hundred milligrams of vitamin C, right?  This will help with absorption, though it probably won't affect stool color.
