6 months, 1 week and COUNTING! - and don't call customer service to check your status.  THEY DON"T KNOW!

On the bright side, 3 cheers for Renee at Newton Wellesley.  she's been friendly and super responsive!

Hi....Mine took a while because I was a conversion from the band to RNY.  THey wanted a secondary letter of medical necessity and the doc took a while to write. Once it was sent in...the approval was in 2-3 days.
Did you know you can sign up for Self Help on Tufts?  I did and you can track the progress of the approval.  I could see when the request for insurance was pended, and the doc office did call me before the screens were updated..I knew they were doing something for the referral request changed from a single line item to 3 line items-two for the doc and one for the hospital.
I think I must have checked that website 100 times while I waited the 3 weeks for the doc to write that extra letter.
Give it a try....helps pass the time.

Joan,
Thanks for the tip, I might do that, though my surgeon's office assured me it usually takes about a week and it has been exactly that today, so I have time before I get too spastic.  :)

I was very lucky with Tufts Health Plan, I too right now have a band that I have had nothing but problems with (4 years out). My stomach slipped through , have terrible reflux.  I am having revision to RNY on Nov 19th at Tufts Medical . I am very excited. I understnd that the procedure is more delicate and different people recover differently as well. Since this is all new to me. Do you mind if I ask how you have done, and why did you have the revision. I'd appreciate it.

Best,
Linda

Insurance companies have 30 business days to either approve or deny.  My insurance took their full 30 business days.  It was worth the weight I was approved on my first try.  I had a difficult insurance company at the time.  I know it is hard to be patient and wait but try, try to keep yourself busy.  I know it is easier sais than done.

Keep bugging them! I was told I'd have to wait a long time, and I ended up getting an approval within 48 hours.
