Castle Island
Morning all!
Wondering if anyone goes to castle island to walk (S. Boston). I have been walking what is called the "sugar bowl".
My pedometer registered 2620 steps yesterday. But today I asked a man that worked there and he said it was 2.4 miles. I do skip the back portion of the "bowl" so I can let Bailey (my yellow lab) swim (dogs are allowed to swim there). The man said it was a little over 1/4 mile for the back end.
But it just doesn't seem that far when you look at it. Wondering if anyone has any more info on it.
Thanks,
Diane

You know there are Googleified maps that you can trace with your mouse that will reveal how far you walked. I've used these to calculate my walking paths thru my neighborhood, and it's great! No more retracing my steps in my car after the fact (when I do that at all!) My cheap pedometer is completely unreliable, since I have short legs, so the stride calculation is way off!

All of these are based on the Google Map API, and range from free services to glossier (but not necessarily better) dual-access pay/free services. I happened across the commercial service "MapMyWalk" first before I found the original, more bare-bones ones. Their "free" service is perfectly fine for my purposes.
BTW: I used to go to Castle Island with my parents all the time when I was a kid. And then we'd stop at Kelly's Landing for fried clams. (Weird that I became allergic to clams in my teenage years!)

Did you figure out the distance yet? I Just got home from there a hour ago. We walked it twice. Someone said it was a little under three miles. What a great place to walk. Sure wish I could stop for one of the hotdogs there though. They are delicious. Did some stopping to watch the people out on the water with there parachutes and wind surfers. Were they ever neat.
