I am so excited about having the surgery!

 I just had a physical on Friday and broke down in the doctors office and told her I cannot take this weight any longer. I feel like I am wasting my life. She just came out and said, "would you like me to refer you for WLS?" I was shocked. I came home and read everything I could find online. These boards are so informative. I cannot wait until tomorrow morning when I call and make an appointment with the surgeon. It also appears I have great insurance and should not have any problems getting it approved. I am beyond thrilled. I cannot wait to have the surgery.

I know the feeling...What I can't understand is why we have to get this information through desperation instead of knowing it is alway an option.  Great to hear you are on the way...Now be patient...the process will take a while but hopefully be very worth it!!!  Best of luck!!!

Just wanted to let you know that Dr. Mun is my surgeon and he is terrific.  Make sure you attend an information session - it is required and will move the process along for you.

That is great to know. I left a message at the office today and they did not get back to me. Maybe tomorrow. Should I go to an information session before my appointment with the Doctor?

I was wondering if you had any trouble getting an appointment with him? I have left messages on two occasions, and have yet to get a call back. I am thinking of looking into another doctor. I think a week is more than enough time to get back to someone. I was thinking maybe he is on vacation.

I wish I had known a few years back! I had no idea it would be so easy to get started. I will be patient. How long is the average before you actually have the surgery?

Hi Diane- I go to Newton Wellesley Hospital and my surgeons name is Dr. Gazmuri. He is a great man and put me at ease right away!! I had my first consultation on April 29,2008 and I am scheduled to have my surgery on July 14th! I am so excited to start this journey. Good luck =)

Best of luck to you! Isn't it exciting? I am sure when I have a date the nerves will set in. But today I just feel like I have hope and I am looking forward to living again. And shopping wherever I please.   Thanks for the info on your surgeon. My PCP referred me to Dr. Mun. I do not know if my insurance will let me go anywhere I choose. I will have to look into it.

Yes, get to the info session asap as it is required as the first step of the process.  I think I went last August and had my surgery in November.  There is alot to do in that time period - but well worth it.  My insurance required Dr. Mun, but every nurse and other person I came across in the hospital raved about him and said he was their favorite doctor to work with.  Good luck.
