MGH Weight Center - Surgeons?

Hi everyone - I was wondering if anybody here is a patient at the MGH Weight Center, and who you used for your surgery? I know most people go with Janey Pratt, and I know that she is excellent but I was wondering about experiences with the other surgeons - Matthew Hutter, Charles Ferguson, and Denise Gee? I'm at the stage now where the surgical scheduler will be calling me. If I have no preference of surgeon, they will match me with the first available surgeon. Dr. Nadai at the weight center mentioned that Dr. Pratt is the most popular, and therefore is the most backed up. He said that all the surgeons were great and I could choose any of them and rest easy. So if you go to MGH or have had surgery with any of these doctors, what do you think of them? Thanks!

Hi Jesella, I too am a patient at MGH. I know how hard it is to pick a surgeon as I just went through it. After LOTS of research I did pick Janey Pratt. Her experience and excellent rate of surgeries with little/no complications was the driving factor for me. I too was worried how long it was to get in but after scheduling with the scheduler I was only 2 months out for a surgery date. I told them that I was flexible and would take an earlier date if one presented itself and sure enough it did. So instead of an April date I had my surgery on March 11, 2008. It was a bit of work getting in all the prescheduled sessions but it was so worth it. If you have any more questions please feel free to ask. J

Thanks for the reply. That is really encouraging to hear that you were able to get in with Dr. Pratt fairly quickly. She's definitely my #1 choice. I guess I'll see what happens when the scheduler calls me this week! And I hope you're doing well!

Dr. Hutter did my surgery (and my aunts surgery) and he has been really wonderful.  If I had to do it all over again he would be my first choice. I have met with Dr. Ferguson when mine was on vacation once and he seem nice.  I also liked that Dr. Hutter does other gastric surgeries...not just bypass.  I had the RNY and my aunt had the band.
