Dr. Janey Pratt?

I had Lap RNY in Springfield with a surgeon i now consider a very poor choice.  I have been horribly sick since the surgery (hospitalized 6 times for dehydration because I cant even drink w/o vomiting), yet this surgeon does not seem concerned.   I am considering transferring my care to a surgeon at MGH that will follow post ops.  Has anyone had surgery (or other experiences) with Dr. Janey Pratt?  I hear she is excellent and hope that others have feed back. I am so sorry you had such a bad experience.   Janey is the best!  She did my surgery in Aug.  I can't say enough nice things about her!  She called me at home the day after I was released to check on me.  Not her nurse, but her.  I went in for dehydration once in Sept.  Her son had surgery that day (so her mind was elsewhere...) but she was right there with me through my CT and stayed with me until all the other tests came back.  Thankfully it was a small case of dehydration and I got to go home...but this shows you how dedicated she is. All the people at the MGH weight center are top notch.  But Janey is the best.  She is very educated on the surgery (she has been doing it for over 5 years I believe)  You really have to meet her.  Go in and talk with her...and if you get a good vibe, then go for it.  Good luck!  If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask me! Margery, Thanks for the reply.  From what I have researched, it seems as though Janey is definitely a top-notch surgeon...and one that I would really, really like to follow with.  However, when I called the office I was told that she was not currently taking new (or follow-up) patients unless they were referred to her some how.  Because I did not leave on a good note with my other surgeon, I do not have the ability to ask him for referral. Because my other specialists are at Mass Gen as well, I was really hoping this would work out.  Oh well, I guess there is nothing I can do because I don't know anyone who knows her and is willing to chat with her on my behalf. Thanks, again, for getting back to me.  She sounds wonderful and its definitely my loss.  I just hope I find someone before my medical issues get worse. Zoe

Is it possible to talk with one of your other specialists at MGH to send her a referal? or to at least send her a note on your behalf?  Maybe that would work.  Worth a shot. Good luck Margery

Good Idea!  I will see if I can coordinate something that way. Otherwise, I may just show up at the office sometime and try to speak to them (her) face to face and see if I can persuade them.  After all, it IS kind of an emergency that I be followed at this critical time. Thanks. Zoe

Zoe - Janey is amazing!!  I had my bypass surgery with her and recently my gallbladder out again with Janey.  I would definitely push to have your other specialists give you a referral.  I recently referred a friend of mine to Janey.  She emailed Janey directly, not really expecting a reply and got an email back the next day, covering all of her questions, etc.  She is very responsive so definitely give it a try.  Good luck!
