I am 7 wks post op this coming Monday.  I know what you mean about smelling food and wanting it.  The funny thing is that the "wanting/having" doesn't happen cause I really have no appetite.  When I do eat, I feel sick to my stomach but I'm working very slowly on this.  Guess this is something that will change with time.  I did have a by-pass and still don't physically feel as if something was even done.  I came thru the surgery great (no swelling/bloating, no gas, no bruising, etc.).  My problems were more in dealing with depression, anxiety and nausea after and still.  I do know when I am having a craving it's normally something sweet and I reach for the Jello Sugar Free Puddings - these have been a life saver.  They seem to calm down my little, itty, bitty pouch !   Good Luck  Carol

The first few weeks are really tough...  I remember when I could first eat solids wanting food, then trying to eat, then feeling gross.  I thought I would never enjoy food again.  In time it all evens itself out.  Just be sure to stick to your plan.  Don't eat solid food till you MD says its ok.  You don't want to risk damaging your insides.  The surgery doesn't immediately change the way your brain works.  But over time, if you work the program, you will begin to realize that eating healthy feels really good!  It is only then that you begin having fewer cravings.  But believe me they never comletely leave...we are still human!

Dear Salem, I just came across your post. I am also banded, two years out...Congratulations on your great beginning! I don't "feel" my band, but I did have restriction in the beginning, probably mostly due to swelling, which I didn't feel right away with jsut clear fluids. Are you on mushies yet? Probably soon, so hang in there. I used hot creamy soups once I was allowed to have them. They really satisfied the cravings for "real food" but I really could't eat much...maybe 1/4 cup and I'd be really full! Hope you have the same experience. Stick to what they are telling you, and I guarantee you will be very successful. Keep me posted, if you have questions, don't be afraid to ask, I'd be glad to share my experiences. Blessings, Mary

OK..duh...just realized you said you were cleared for mushies... I used mashed sweet or white potato in that stage with fat free gravy or cream of chicken soup on it to satisfy my cravings for real food. Later on you won't want to use lots of carbs, but at that stage it helped me get through and I didn't have to eat much. I used the little plastic containers that measured 1/2 c and portioned it out in the fridge for myself so it was handy when I needed to eat. Hope this helps.... Mary
