UMass Memorial Weight Center (Worcester, MA)
I THINK the very UNcool nutritionist lady held me up. I actually called in January and asked what was going on. They told me that I needed to re-weigh-in for the nutritionist. I was livid that she was holding me back and I didn't even know. I got an appointment with her and she CANCELED that one and the next 3. Once I got in, she smiled and said I was cleared. I wanted to tell her off, but wanted the surgery more. She was a chubby control freak.
Hi Randi,
My name is Jessica. I am currently going through the UMass Program. I started my process in September. My first appointment with the medical director was on 9/17/07. I then saw the Nut and Psych doctor's, and then started with my pre-surgical skills group classes (there are 4 ... 1 per week). I was told that it can take about 6-8 months total before having surgery. I'm hoping to have my surgery in March (so 6 months). Right now, I am just waiting to hear from the Weight Center about my consult appointment with a surgeon. Hopefully it will be smooth sailing from there.
Wow... Look at all the Grafton Girls here... I went through Umass as well... Dr. Perigini (hes soo cute) It took me about 9 months from start to finish..
I am 16 months post-op and have lost 111 pounds and I now wear a size 8 and have been maintaing that for about 4 months... would like to lose another 10 but its not a big deal if I dont..
I am going to start going to the new gym in Stop and Shop Plazza in Grafton (anytime fittness) and maybe that will take off the last 10
Brenda, I am also from Grafton. I would love to know what you think of the new anytime fitness. I have been considering joining...I need something to motivate my exercise routine. I am 9 months post op and have lost almost 100 pounds. I still want to loose 45-50 pounds and I know it won't come off without moving my body more...
I was curious about the new Anytime Fitness too. I did check it out before they opened to find out the monthly cost. It is $39/month for 1 person or $65/month for a couple. It does sound like a great gym, especially with it being open/accessible "Anytiime." The only thing that bummed me out was the fact that you have to pay a joining fee, you have to sign a 12 month contract, and the monthly charges are a bit more than what I am paying right now. I currently go to Grafton Fitness, which is in the Koopman Lumber Plaza ... It is $30/month for 1 person or $60/month for a couple and you don't have to pay any type of joining fee, no contracts, and can cancel at anytime. The only downfall is that it's probably not as spacious as the other gym, but the hours are reasonable.
Believe it or not another Grafton girl here!!! I had Dr. Kelly at UMass for my RNY in April of 2007. He is very professional, has a great reputation and is worth waiting for. My process took only 7 months from start to finish but it was a little quicker because I also had to get in before Tufts new policy. I would highly reccomed the UMass program. They are very thorough. I was somewhat disappointd with the exercise physiologist I saw but it is nice that they at least have this part to the program. Feel free to ask any additional question if you like.
