Two Mass. men dead after drinking contaminated milk
BOSTON (AP) -- Massachusetts health officials are warning consumers not to drink milk produced by a dairy that they consider the likely source of deadly listeriosis.
The bacterial illness is blamed in the deaths of two elderly men and it made at least two other people sick.
Testing shows that the bacteria causing the infections likely came from the same source.
Whittier Farms has suspended operations and distribution.
Its milk products are sold under several brands including Whittier, Schultz, Balance Rock, Spring Brook, and Maple.
Listeriosis poisoning that can be dangerous to the elderly, newborns, pregnant women and people with chronic medical conditions. Symptoms include fever, headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
