RNY Surgery on 11/26...only 10 pounds down...stalled for last 5 days???
Morning all,
Hoping I can get some insights as I am feeling pretty down right now. I had lap RNY on 11/26 and am feeling pretty well physically (took a week off from work, worked from home the next week and have been back at work this week).
My question/concern: I've only lost 10/11 pounds (scale has fluctuated by 1-3 pounds over the last week) since surgery. I'm eating ~60g protein per day and haven't had more than 700 calories/day at all; not cheating on the type of food that I eat...I hear others say that they've lost twice what I've lost in the same period and this is supposed to be the fastest weight loss period, so wondering what I'm doing wrong??? (I must admit: I've been working 10 hrs/day so not exercising as I'm leaving at 7:30AM and not walking in the door until 8PM most nights...then have to get kids to bed and eat. It doesn't leave much time to work out. I know that has to change.)
Any thoughts? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a sign of something wrong that I'm only down 10 pounds in 3 weeks?
Help!

Everyone loses weight at a different rate. I don't know how your program works, seeing how every doctor is a little different. However, what is it that you are eating? With NWH, it was pureed foods for the first month. We really didn't need to concentrate on protein the first month either. Mainly getting enough fluids to stay hydrated. Also, I didn't exersize my first month at all. I was told to lay low for the first month, but I was allowed to walk, but not vigorously. I didn't start "working out" until I got the green light from my doc at then end of one month post op. I know there are some other programs that have patients do a liquid only diet for a few weeks, then graduate to soft foods.

When I saw doc for post-op visit @ 1 wk he said that I could start adding in soft things: like soup, mashed potato (which I haven't done--too much of a trigger food), etc. I have had soft scrambled eggs once, and mush up turkey chili (1/2 cup at a sitting), but mostly doing protein shakes, soup and some days I will add in one of those mini Baby Bel cheeses or a sugar-free yogurt. Not much beyond that in my diet really.
I think that I am going to call and make another appt. w/a NUT--though the ones that they now have at Winchester Hospital don't seem to have experience with post-surgical patients :-(

At exactly one month post-op the scale was down 18 pounds from my weight on the morning of surgery. It still fluctuates a bit, but moving in the right direction. I have noticed that I am fitting clothes much differently--nearly fitting into a 16 down from a 24! I guess that I am not going to be one of those who lose 30 pounds a month...getting healthier though! Thanks for asking and hope that you had a good holiday!
