Hair
Hi everyone,
I am just about 1 day short of three months out and last night I died my hair for the first time in a long time. (I just started to use permanent die over the summer). Well, when I did the "rinse" I noticed hair loss. I wouldn't call it clumping hair loss, but I would say "quite a few" got away. I was somewhat freaked out. I know, it's day 1 - get used to it.
I was great with protein and vitamins and everything since my surgery, even adding extra protein drinks. I know this just happens and there isn't anything we can do but ride it out and ingest protein.
My question - Is it just a wild coincidence that it happened while I was dying my hair? Or did the dying of my hair worsen the problem?
Thanks,
Julie

Hair loss starts at around 3 months out. If you're going to have hair loss, there is nothing you can do as this is part of it. I lost hair from 3 months until 10 months out. Know that as you're losing, you'll have new hair growth as well. Make sure you're getting in all your protein and take biotin along with it. It won't stop the loss but will slow it down and help with the new hair growth.
It was a coincidence that it showed a hair loss when you dyed your hair. Dying your hair will not create an addition to the hair loss.
So when people say they were losing for as many months as you were, they are also growing new hair simultaneously? I always imagined that the growing didn't start until the losing ended. I am really trying to accept it and just move forward. I know more stress will only make it worse.
Thanks for the support and advice!

My hair was coming in as it was falling out. I did cut my hair shorter to deal with the change and thinning. If you're going to lose hair, you're going to lose hair no matter what you do or take for it. It's just how your body is dealing with all the changes that are occurring. To be honest, it's really not that bad and it'll all grow back just as quickly as it's fallen out.

I am almost 9 months out, and my hair loss started at about 4 months... the length of time you are actually loosing hair varies. I know someone who had the issue for 8-9 months, I lost hair for about 3-4 months. I had kind of long hair and made the decision to cut it short - this helped with the anxiety of really clogging my shower drain every time I washed my hair - I can now laugh about it, but I got the BEST compliments when I cut my hair. So, there was an up side!!
I wahsed and styled my hair today and had less in my hands. I think when I see people post that they were losing for 6-9 months I envision nothing but loss. I don't consider that during that period they have some regrowth as well.
Not one of you seems totally panic struck either. I need to take a breath and go through this gracefully and naturally. Thanks for your support!

I am three months post-op as well and I mentioned it to the nurse at the office when I had my 3-month post op visit. She told me to get 50mg of zinc and that would help with the hair loss. I've only been taking the zinc for two weeks now, but I do notice less hair in the brush after each brushing.
Hope this helps.

I had not heard of the zinc kendra. I do take Biotin, but I think I will go out today and add zinc to the daily regimen. Can't hurt, right?
Thanks so much!
