Differences in MH Plans Updated
After gathering information from other OHers and calling many times to the three primary MassHealth manged care providers, I found out that it DOES matter who is managing your MH plan as to whether or not you will need to do a 6 month supervised diet before surgery.
You WILL need to do the 6 months if you have the PCC or Neighborhood Network plans.
If you have the BMC plan you will NOT have to do it.
You can always switch to the BMC plan, but.....you may have to switch both your regular doc AND the WLS hospital you choose as either or both may not accept the BMC plan. You could switch your doc back after surgery if he/she would take you back (find out before you do this).
Other than the advantage of skipping the 6 months, the only benefit to BMC seems to be a quick approval process.
Please verify this information before you do anything. As you know, government programs are subject to change if you sneeze, and this is what it was when I researched.
