Ambien

My GP put me on Ambien because I don't sleep very well and I walk in my sleep. Is anyone currently taking this that has had surgery and if so has it helped? I started cutting the pills in half because it was knocking the crap out of me for the first 3 hours and then I wake up and can't fall back to sleep.
