Who decides what size lap band a patient gets?

I have been reading people profiles who have lap bands that can fill to 14 cc's. How do you know which one you are getting and can you request it?

Natasha, First of all, the doctor decides (once he/she in there) on what size band to use. It depends on the size of your stomach nad your anatomy. Most people seem to get the 4cc band. The larger band holds around 11 ccs I haven't heard about the one that holds 14 ccs. I am in the Boston area, and that is the way it is done around here. Ask your doctor what size band he uses. Leslie
