has anyone had luck getting approved by this insurance with a borderline morbid bmi and a couple of comorbidities? i've done everything i need to do so far, except the two support groups i need to attend. they only meet once a month so i'll be doing feb and march. my surgeon says they submit to the insurance company towards the end of the process because the approval is only good for 90 days and then it expires so if you don't have the surgery within that time frame you need to resubmit. on paper it looks like i shouldn't have a problem being approved, but i'm still worried. i think i remember the woman who ran our seminar saying they never had much trouble with bc/bs but still i worry.....

I want to say not to worry but I don't want to jinx you. I have BC/BS Network Blue and was approved in about 2 weeks. I have no comorbidities and my starting BMI was 49. I would call them and check - I feel better about annoying the insurance people than the doctor. In fact I called after a week and was told I was approved but they were still waiting for a date of surgery from my doctor. The doctor called me to report the approval about 4-5 days later. Not to worry it will all come together, jennifer RNY Wednesday 2/7/07

thanks. i have called the insurance company and they referred me to the policy online, of which i do meet the criteria. my doctor hasn't submitted my paperwork yet, so i can't get anything more specific out of them. i guess they will submit once i sign off on both support groups. my bmi is like 39.8 or something like that. i have hypertension and an irregular heart beat. i'm not sure if they will not consider those comorbidities, because they can be controlled with medication. i'm just looking for a trend in the area regarding bc/bs. i hate the thought of having to fight an insurance company for a benefit that my company bought ya know? good luck with your surgery tomorrow! where are you having it? i'll be thinking of you and watching your progress online. : ) cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I think think diabetes and hypertension probably do count as comorbities. Good luck! ~Cher

I have bcbs and my bmi was around the same as yours and they just rounded it off to 40. I was approved in about a week.
