2 weeks post; ZERO hunger.. is this okay?
I am now almost 18 days post lap band surgery. I have absolutely NO appetite. I get bloated and full after a few sips of Fruit 2o or a carnation shake. Is this normal? Lots of people report no restriction after surgery... huh?? Of course, I've lost about twelve pounds already... pounds are melting away and that, of course is fabulous! I can't even imagine having a fill, when I'm already so full! Dr. Mun doesn't see his patients until three weeks after surgery, so I'm supposed to stay on full liquid diet for another week. I have snuck in a few tablespoons of pureed food here and there just to test the waters. But it just sits there... and sits there... and sits there... feels like I ate an entire turkey dinner. Will I ever be able to eat again? Getting a little nervous...
I am 8 weeks post op and I still have no appetite. I've moved into Phase 1 and I'm killing myself to eat all the food and drink all my water while still getting in all the vitamins. I NEVER get all my days food down. At 2 weeks post op my NUT moved me onto pureed foods. I was able to eat 1 - 2 TBSP a day of whatever I pureed and maybe 1 Carnation Instant Breakfast with Simply Smart Milk but that filled me. Water has been very diffcult for me post op where I loved it preop. I don't drink anything else but Simply Smart Milk and Water now. No matter what I put into my mouth these days I am forcing it. My stomach is never hungry. My head hunger passed after 2 weeks.
So to answer your question.... to me zero hunger is normal.
Welcome to the losers bench!!
yes, it is normal. I'm 9 months out and can tell you I still have many days of zero hunger. Some days I drink 3 protein shakes to get in my protein and eat some cashews to get in my calories (and extra protein). I still cant do milk protein shakes because they're too thick, if I drink them a few sips later I'm full. I drink IsoFruit protein shakes because they're thin like juice and yummy!
you'll eat again, just never as much as you could before surgery. no need to be nervous, do you ever remember losing 20lbs in 18 days or better yet, not having to work at losing 20lbs? sit back and enjoy the ride!!
Hey Nella I am 13 months out. Yes it gets better. In fact at times you will wish you couldnt eat what you are able to. Between 6 to 9 months the pouch finally relaxes after having the surgery and the elasticity comes back and the size you can eat almost doubles. I currently eat 6 to 10 ounces of food. Of course depending on the food. My surgeon said it is small for someone out as long as I am. At 2 years out you should be able to eat 1.5 cups of food and that is the size of a lean cuizine meal. Which is a proper portion of food. Check the fats and sugars for the carnation shake I know many people who dump on those. Also if you feel blotted many people are temporarily lactose intolerant right after surgery. It is now an experiment to see what oyur body will do or wont. There are times I am hungry and times when I know I have gone to long without being hungry. Just charish that you dont feel it right now. Also your body reacts differently now. You just had everythign snipped and rearranged. The nerve endings have been severed in many cases and the muscles and tissue are attrified( oops spelling) They are swollen and stiff. just be good to yourself and follow the surgeons diet it wont stear you wrong. If you are unsure email me.
