Hey everyone. Just got word that Dr. Brown will not be starting up WLS at SNHMC. Does anyone know of a good program to join? I would like to join a program that will accept everything i have done to date. One thing I did like about Dr. Browns program is that it just required you to not gain weight from your first weigh in. I have been able to lose some but that is the reason I am going to have surgery because it is so hard to lose. Well, If anyone has any info let me know Joshua

I'm not familiar with Dr. Brown or SNHMC, but I've loved the program at Newton Wellesley (Dr. Gazmuri was my surgeon) http://newtonwellesleywls.com/content/16.htm They have the same requirement of just not gaining before surgery and fasting after midnight the night before surgery. The followup care has been wonderful (I'm 13wks postop). They have a wonderful staff, the hospital is great. I've had a number of unrelated surgeries at other hospitals and I can tell you, NW is the best hospital I've been treated at. The nurses were fantastic. Good luck with your search! Hi Joshua I had my surgery done by Dr. Randall at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford ,Ma. I had surgery almost a year ago. I was well taken care of from beginning to end. Dr. Randall did not require me to loose weight he just did not want to see me gain. I would assume he would take what you have already done but, i would check with his office about that. Good Luck in your research! Janet

Hi Josh....I am starting to lose faith in my program now! I had my appt with the surgeon, and the night before they cancelled...said she was on vaca. I called today to get a new appt and the earliest was nov 3rd..so much for working my ass off to get surgery in oct. What reason did they give for Dr Brown not starting up there? I am soooo sorry

Hey Miss June, Well i am now enrolled in Newton Wellsley's program. I spoke to the office today and they will accept everything i have done to date. I need to attend another informational seminar next Thursday (3rd one now) and 3 different support groups. Will be done with those by November 3rd. I meet with the surgeon, dietician, and psych all on Novemner 1st. So she said barring any unforseen problem December or January at the latest. So you will be at work in 1.5 hours. please dont give me a medical today. I need rest time. hehehehehe

I'm w/ Carolyn on this one, I am almost 4 weeks post op but I had Dr. Thayer but will follow up w/ the same Dr as Carolyn as Dr. Thayer retired a week after I had my surgery. I am looking forward to meeting him tomorrow when I go for diet advancement (he had been on vacation) I'm sure if you have all of the documents, test results etc it should make it easier. Good Luck Gwen

Hi Joshua, I recommend the program at Lowell General Hospital. They just moved from Saints Memorial because Lowell General is making it a priority for them. You can call them at 978-788-7200. Dr. Shore and the whole team there is incredible.

Hey Josh....Theres a great program through UMass Memorial in Worcester with Dr. John Kelly. He is, from what I've heard, a leading bariatric surgeon in Massachusetts and does training seminars for area Dr.'s wanting to learn how to do the surgery. They just started doing Lap-Band as well and thats what I'm getting reffered to the program for....good luck and best wishes... Lauren.

They've actually been doing the lap band for quite some time now. A friend of mine had it done in March 2005, and they were doing it even before then! So good luck!
