Hi Everyone, I am scheduled for July 17th. I was just wondering what I will be able to actually DO after surgery. I will be out for a couple of weeks, from work obviously. WILL I BE ABLE TO GO TO THE BEACH and just sit in my beach chair? Walk on the tidal flats, look for shells? I know I won't be doing any lifting, my friend Ray will do all of that, but I didn't know if I am going to be stuck in my house? I just wanted some input on what types of things am I going to have to be CAREFUL about... I am having the laproscopic bypass Roux-en-y. (PS: you don't have to tell me not to have sex,now....well all I can say is ---> Sex, I don't remember that too well. that will be in the future after I have lost some weight and I find me a HUNK or TWO , LOL - as of right ha ha ha ha ha thank you, Sandi

Hi Sandy, I'm almost 3 weeks out and I do alot. The only thing I'm trying to still be careful about is lifting, which is hard with my 2 yr old nephew that wants me to pick him up all the time. The day after I was released from the hospital I was out shopping and I go out walking all the time. I refused to stay stuck in all the time, especially with the beautiful weather we've been having. Good luck with your surgery and have a speedy recovery!!!

Hiya Sandi, I started swimming at the Y when 3 weeks out. I found I could do just about anything I could before ( which wasnt much, cuz of my knees and back) I do know they encourage you to exersize and do alot of walking. I would say the bending for looking for shells will be fine as long as you are comfortable and not straining. good luck to you (o: Trish

Swimming was one of my major concerns. I asked and the reply I got was: Oceans and Pools until the incisions sites are completely healed. The ocean has salt and the pools have chlorine, so you'll be all set, but the lakes have nothing to clean themselves with. So i'm going swimming asap. They probably don't recommend going swimming while you are still taking pain meds. Atleast have someone with you if you do.

I am actually 4 months post op. Dr. Kelly also did my surgery. He had me stay home from work for 1 month. Wouldn't let me back one day early. The first few days home from the hospital, I stayed home but after that, I was out walking and shopping. I had no pain med after they took away the morphine. Tylenol a couple of times. I was also in the hospital for 7 days instead of 3 due to some compliations. I am now going to Curves 3-4 days a week and my energy level even scares me....... Good luck and everyone at the hospital was great......
