Well, wrapper that is.   Yes, after so many weeks of waiting (since January 26th when I saw the physical therapist for my eval).....my wrap kits are in, so I can finally start decongestive therapy for the lymphedema in my legs.  I'm SO ready to look like a mummy.  I want to thank God for making this all possible. I posted about it in my blog, so if you have the time and would like to read about what this means for me, then please check out my profile.   BTW- I just completely revamped my profile too...I think it's real pretty!  Best of all the stuff in "my story" is finally centered thanks to the one who fixed that for me...you know who you are...the most talented "sprucer" of all profiles  you rock!! Thanks to everyone for their support and have a GRRREAT day!

Loved the title of your post LOL. I've been reading the lymphadema forum here and see where these wrappers combined with decongestive therapy and elastic stockings are so important. I'm glad that you are finally on the road to proper treatment and sad that it has taken you so long to get proper insurance coverage - that is unfair. Good luck with the treatment. Skylar

I'm excited to see how much weight I lose with all the fluid that's gonna leave my body....that should be inspiring for me to continue trying to lose as much as possible pre-op with diet and exercise.

Topic: RE: Lymphedema after a thighplasty
I was diagnosed with lymphedema after my medial thigh lift on Dec. 7th.  Like yours, one of my calves swells to 2" larger than the other.  Also, my PS actually told me that lymphedema wasn't a risk factor for me when I asked about it pre-op.  I was diagnosed by a second PS that took over my follow-up care after I developed an infection in a seroma in my "big leg."  Last week I started intensive treatments at a lymphedema clinic for 2 hours per day for 2 weeks.  My husband has learned how to bandage my leg at night, I'm getting scar treatments, lymph drainage, I'll be learning exercises and how to do my own drainage, and I'll be fitted for compression stockings to wear during the day when I'm done with treatment.  It sounds like you need the same kind of treatment I'm going through.  My therapist is highly trained (LANA) and experienced (8 years) and very good with scar work.  Maybe you could contact the Lymphology Association of North America and see if you have any qualified therapists near you.  This condition is so hard to deal with but it will just get worse if you don't have the right kind of treatment.

Topic: RE: help emergency leg is severely leaking
Donna, I hope you've contacted your doctor and are feeling better. I have lymphedema in both legs and have suffered with the " weeping" that you mentioned. It has to be taken care of aggressively, or it will get out of hand VERY quickly. Infection can happen with open wounds, and that can be quite serious.  My legs are thankfully under control and doing great with compression hose and wraps. Lymphedema can be controlled, but you have to take measures every day.  Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.  Best wishes,  Toni

I do hope you did seek medical care. It is a good idea to seek help when issues like this occurs.I hate doctors as much as the next person but they are needed to stay healthy. Better to get things under control sooner than later. If you wait to long things could go from bad to worse.... It would be wise to see a health care provider on a norm if you have a condition like Lymphedema. Robert

Topic: RE: Lipedema / Lymphedema
Hi Nan - I have a website that you might enjoy taking a look at. The url makes it sound like a jewelry website, but it is way more than that! The jewelry just helps to support the website development and design. the url is http://ladyfrog-vintage-jewelry.com It is a site that will be providing more and more info about lipedema and other chronic pain. Lipedema is sometimes called "Painful Fat disease". I can relate to that name! It isn't a very well studied disorder, and is really at the bottom of the barrel as far as research goes - mostly because at this stage 1 it isn't life threatening. I would like to invite you and anyone else who deals with these issues to come join in the dicussions and topics.
