Topic: RE: Dealing w/ LE & living alone
I have LE in both legs. I had the manual lymph drainage treaments and have graduated to compression stockings. I use alot of water therapy to control the swelling in my legs when they start to swell.
The websight I hang out on to get questions answered about Lymphedema is:
http://www.lymphnotes.com/article.php/id/229/
They have forums that directly address LE issues instead of the tiny one on this board.

Dear Michelle,
My heart goes out to you. I can't help you with your question as I don't do the compression garments. I do know that they are difficult to work with. I at one time weighed in at 450 lbs. and have had lymphedma for over 10 years. After I had the GBS I thought that my breakouts of celulitus would be gone forever, but I started to get injections in my knees to help the arthritis and each time I would get a breakout. After losing 200 lbs. and having a panni. again I thought no more breakouts, and 2 wks after I was off of the antibiotics for the surgery I broke out again. It is a fickle disorder (or disease). The only thing that I can say is to ask your doc. to show how to do the wrappings and what is best way to clean it.
Like you I live alone and it is difficult to have to do everything for yourself.
You take care and keep your chin up. Your legs will get better.

Hello, My name is Kim and I have lymphedema in my right leg. I just had the sleeve on 2-27-08 and it really did help the swelling in my leg. When I work alot the leg still swells some but not like it did. Kim
Topic: Dealing w/ LE & living alone
I am trying my best to deal with this disease, but it is so hard to do it alone. Just trying to get compression wraps on evenly and effectively is bad enough, but now one leg is leaking again, but my doc (dermatologist) says it is not an ulcer, but whatever it is it stil hurts and needs cleaning and what if I am doing that wrong??? I am sorry this is coming out as a rant, but I am so fed up with this and all the docs I see saying the same damn thing..."have surgery...it will all be better after surgery...blah blah" Yeah, sure...but who's going to pay for it? I am already in 1000 dollars of medical debt and that's AFTER medicare paid it's part for all the care. Anyway, I am looking into options where the weight loss is concerned...but for now does anyone have any tips about taking care of the legs alone in the most healthy way possible??? Whatever support or guidance you may offer is greatly appreciated, thank you.
Topic: RE: Big weight loss from night to morning ...
My entire weight loss journey has been in chunks just like that. Therefore it must be associated with LE. This is the only board that I have seen the same thing happen to someone else as me. I have had as much as a 30# loss overnight. The weight loss would happen 1 day every 4-6 weeks.

I really don't see how that big of a change (loss) is possible between bed and a.m., unless you are getting up during the night to do #1 and/or #2, although I would guess that the vast majroity of this lost weight is fluid, esp. if it comes right back by the end of the day.
I know my nurse WLS buds claim that my LE probably accounts for 10 lbs. or more of fluid in my body (i.e. excess lymphatic fluid), but I find it hard to imagine I'm sloshing THAT much around in my feet and ankles/lower legs. But then they point out that just a gallon of liquid weighs that much, or some such, which them seems to make it appear more plausible to me for some reason (although I still find it hard to believe I have that much fluid down there!)
Topic: Big weight loss from night to morning ...
I didn't believe it myself so I got on the scale 3-4 times to make sure. Is this more than likely due to the lymphedema (LE) that I have. I can get ready to go to bed and weigh literally 10 pounds more than I do in the morning. By morning time I have lost the 10-11 pounds. This has just been in the last week. But also I have had a bad bad cold that I have been fighting and have been taking Mucinex (thank goodness for Mucinex). Or is my body going through more changes? I have been at a stall for approximately a month now.
I know I shouldn't be weighing myself at night... but you know how it is.
By the way my surgery was 10-30-07.
Thanks again,
Heidi
