My old PT lived in IN but I think she recently moved to TN...she wrapped my legs 3 times a week for a year...and she was very involved with trying to figure out new ways of wrapping for my odd shaped legs. I know you posted this a few months ago. I would love to know how things are going for you. And btw...as for getting Medicare to cover reconstructive surgery...I got BCBS to cover my arms because the excess skin was do to a congential condition that caused the disfigurment....it's NOT cosmetic. When you get to that bridge, I'll help you cross it!!!

I started manual lymph drainage and wrapping about a year before my surgery and continued it for a year after then moved to wearing compression garments. After surgery it's much easier to manage the lymphedema in my legs, but if I go without my garments they begin to swell...I will always have to manage the LE. Yours might be more difficult since the lymphe system was damaged with surgery...I've been told mine is impaired but does function at some level...when lymph nodes are removed or lymphe systems is impeded by cutting it can make things more problematic. Best wishes...I hope WLS does improve your situation....

Topic: RE: Lymphedema in arm resulting from cosmetic brachioplasty
Lorraine,
I had a brachoplasty (arm lift ) on March 20th 2009. As a preventative measure I have been having lymph massage drainage. Last week my right hand started to swell. No one is quite sure what it is yet . Could be over use, could be lymphedema. I am so very upset and I wondered if you have any advice.
Thank you
Joeleen

Brenda-
I had a few bumps. dehydration, and not being able to eat or drink well early out. My DS was February 25th...I'm almost 2 and a half months out, and I'm 19 pounds away from losing my first 100 punds. 172 pounds to go after that.

I too have lower leg lymphedema- from a combo of having no lymph nodes in my groin and then breaking my leg. I went through the main manual drainage and wrapping for almost 3 years.
Since surgery I have noticed some improvement, but I still gain 5 - 10 pounds of fluid each day (it is usually back off in the morning). My doc told me to be sure to drink even more than the recommended 64 ounces per day and to keep exercising. The swelling is annoying, but not nearly as painful as it was 100 pounds ago!!

I've been dealing with my leg problem since 1986 and at this point I wish they would just cut my leg off if that would solve the problem. But I think in the past 2-3 years the problem has krept up to my thigh.
