Topic: RE: venous stasis- swelling in the feet and ankles
My venous stasis didn't become evident until AFTER I lost over 200 pounds. I now have to wear compression garments, and like you cannot wear sandals, have to avoid the heat, and my ankles balloon when I exercise. I am sorry to say that weight loss may help, but does not correct venous stasis.

Topic: RE: Lymphedem and Plastic Surgery
So it *is* possible to remove the excess skin from the legs after reaching goal from WLS?  I've often wondered that, as I have a pretty severe case of cellulitis in both my lower legs.

Thanks,
Helly

I had posted a comment that I have had lower leg lymphedema sine age 12 but after looking over this site and checking other sites especially lipedema, I think this is what I actually have plus some lymphedema as I fit the profilse to a "T".  I had not looked for any new info for many years since there was nothing new to offer other than support garments and massage.  I haven't even seen a dr about this for at least 20 yrs.  I am planning on VSG, maybe next month, and am now re-thinking about it--I am 57, have BMI of 44 and have enjoyed food a lot.  Maybe, though, many pounds are also partly the result of lipedema as when I dieted strictly, not much happened. I really want(ed) this surgery but maybe having surgery may not help much.  Also, how do I know if this is starting in my arms, I attribute the size to being obese  I apprecite any thoughts or help.  I feel pretty darned stupid now for not keeping up with latest info.  I am so glad I found this forum.

I had RNY gastric bypass. I've also had skin removed from my arms twice, and they are back to the way were...still big.

RE:  compression stockings--Sigvaris has thin, comfy ones with cotton--good for hot, humid climates.
Ames-Walker has their own brand, heavier weight with cotton, also comfortable.

Hello:  I have had bilateral lower leg lymphedema since I was 13.    I had been diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and then the swelling started.  I was not overweight then.  I have been wearing compression stockings since then (I am 57).   Have you looked into decompressive therapy?  http://www.lymphnet.org/
It is a very gently done special massage technique with bandaging or compression garments afterwards.  It may provide some relief to you.
I have a massage therapist friend who has done this for me in the past.  Think it is time to start again.
Good luck and I am thinking of you.
