Topic: Finally some relief
I have suffered from lower (right) leg lymphedema for the past 9 years.  I finally found a wonderful lymphedema therapist.  She wrapped my leg on Friday and I can already see a dramatic difference.  I hope to have RNY in December and I still need to lose 25 pounds to get my bmi where the doctor wants it to be.  I'm so grateful to have started these lymph treatments.  My only regret is the fact I didn't start them sooner.  My advice to anyone who is suffering from Lymphedema is to get treatment.  Don't wait, help is out there.

You all are so encouraging, makes me even more motivated to get LapBand surgery.  My family keeps telling me how I lost so much weight on WW and can do it again but ya know what, here I am again in the same boat although I did not gain it all back, I feel like some of it is attributed to the lymphedema in my legs/feet and what now seems like my abdomen after all the pumping.

Topic: RE: Lymphedem and Plastic Surgery

I have had great success wearing a compression garment I bought at the OH convention in Rye New York last October.  The company is call Lipo Express.  I got several custom long leg garments (Model 1610 with extended legs), I have been wearing them 24/7, and only remove it to shower and then put on a fresh one.  It is necessary to wash them after each use in order to avoid cellulitus.  Since wearing the garment I lost 40# of fluid and can now wear regular support hosiery to control the swelling.

PS: My vascular doctor said that any cutting of the legs could cause a major non reversible flare up of the lymphedema as well as an acute case of cellulitis that could be very hard to stabilize.  Any plastic surgery needs to be done by someone with a lot of experience with lymphedema.  If they produce references of other lymphedema patients, find another surgeon.

One of my biggest hopes was for this problem to go down, and I an very very happy with the results. I no longer have the intense pain in my legs and I no longer swell. My legs usually just stay at the same size now. I am very happy.

Topic: RE: Lower Leg Lymphedema
I went to the OH Convention this past October in Rye NY, there was a vendor there "Lipo Express" selling compression garments.  They are usually used for post plastic surgery patients, however, I thought I'd try it for the lyphedema.  I ordered a full length one down to the ankles.  That first weekend, I dropped 14 pounds, through December of 2009 it became 40#.  Then I had my kitchen remodeled and was without my Oven, sink and Microwave for 2 weeks and was living on cheesesticks, cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs.  At work I ordered out a salad everyday. That caused me to lose another 20#.  I went to a consultation for fat transfer and was told I have no excess fat on my body to harvest for transfer, the only thing left on me is lymph tissue and excess skin.  So I have reached 149#, still not at goal but maintaining nicely.  The compression garment was the cure for me, yes the legs are still swelling but its more controllable.

Hello Happy - I usually post on the main forum but since I suffer with lower leg lymphedema (both legs) I noted that you started at just about the same weight as me (435#) I am at 245# now (2 years post rny) and am extremely frustrated to think I am not losing any more.  Can you tell me any secrets per chance? (besides buttoning up my lips lol!) My lower legs still swell but I do have stockings to wear which I do when they are at their worst but this summer I hardly wore then at all because it was just tooo hot!!
Congrats on your super weight loss - You give me hope that perhaps I can attain my own goal of 150# (I'll be thrilled if I can make it below 200#).  I know my family watches my frsutrations grow and of course there is my new addiction to anything sweet which I am dealing with as best I can.  It's tough but I try and remember how much tougher life was for me at over 400# and usually that brings my appetite into check!  Just wanted to say hello and say you are an inspiration  to others (most especially me!!!) Take care , blessings,  Mary

I am so glad you are continuing to have success!  I have wondered how it was going for you.  I have my surgeon appt this week and am looking forward to things progressing.  My legs have gotten smaller with the weight loss and exercise I have achieved over this summer and I PRAY that my arms and legs will continue to get smaller post surgery.  You have given me hope on this journey!!!

I can only tell you what my heart Dr. and Lymph Dr. said. Trey both agreed that weight loss surgery would greatly bnefit me because of the strain on my heart and lymph system.  I was having to havemy legs wrapped compressed and massaged 3-4 days a week for almost 5 mo. after I had surgery both Dr.s were very pleased with the results. My legs went down to the point that I now have compression pantihose I wear most of my waking hours. In 1 mo. my legs went down 3 inches. My lymph Dr. told me to watch as the fat goes so will the fluid.I have found that to be true. As I see fat floating in the toliet the next day I pee.pee,pee. My lymph Dr. is even encouraging me to get a lower body lift to take the extra skin off the abdomen and thighs to take the stress off the lymphs in the legs. I live in Houston,Tx and my wonderful Dr. is Dr. Moosa at the Lymphedema Institue in Clear Lake.
