Topic: RE: Before and After pics of legs
I didn't know you could get it in your thighs also. I believe I have it in that area as well as in the area I was diagnosed in (feet and legs) I use a compression pump everyday for about an hour and 15 mins. which does not help much. I take water pills at least twice a week and then pump. Most of the fluid is released but I still have problems putting on my shoes or even new socks I bought which is very frustrating. I can imagine what you must have gone through or even going through. Congrats on your surgery, hope you get better!
Hello I am looking for people who live in the Warren and Center Line area who are preparing for weight loss surgery or had the surgery. Possibly you are having it at Henry Ford Macomb Hospital on E. 10 Mile in Center Line or you had it there. I am preparing for surgery and even though I don't have my exact date as of yet I would like to keep in touch with others that are like me or was like me. Serious replies only please, maybe this summer we could form a walking group and just support each other through our journey of getting healthy.
Please contact me via email, if you are seriously interested in forming this group.
Thanks!

Topic: Pumping is not helping!
I have a pump I use everyday for about an 1hr. 15 mins. for my lymphedema and still my feet and legs are swollen. I take water pills twice a week and then pump. It helps a bit when I take the water pills, but that's just it...it helps a little bit. Are any of you having the same problem if you are using a pump or taking water pills?

Topic: RE: venous stasis- swelling in the feet and ankles
You could have significant improvement. I have similar stats to yours for height and weight. With nearly 150 lbs gone, swelling has improved tremendously.
I use compression socks and elevate my legs as needed. However, it is nothing like what it was. Also, being smaller with lean limbs, I can spot any edema when it first begins.

Topic: RE: Lymphedema Therapy
Therapy is wonderful. I started going in October, November and December. Honestly, I wish I would have found this therapist sooner. I suffer from lower right leg lymphedema. My therapist showed me how to massage and wrap. She explained the lymphatic system to me as well. I am a joking type of person and when she asked me to get undressed, I replied with well I should get a dinner first. We both laughed. I also took my sister with me on my 2nd visit so she could learn how to wrap etc... I am now approved for surgery (waiting on a date), and my lymphedema is under control. I wear a compression garment and my leg is "reshaping". I no longer have to go to weekly therapy. I just check in every 3 months or so. I cannot wait to have weight loss surgery and finally be free from the excess weight.
You'll be so happy with therapy!!!

Topic: RE: masses have virtually DISAPPEARED!
Hi,
Sorry I leave my computer on so while it appeared I was online I wasn't at my computer.
Yes, if you look at the pics of my legs you'll see I had a huge what we called "pouch" on my inner left thigh that hung down over my calf, through the therapy and weight loss the pouch shrunk so much. My legs do still swell if I don't wear my compression garments...they get tights and a little painful but that doesn't stop me from going without when I'm just around the house...like today no plans but housework, and rest and I gotta wash the garments. After weight loss managing my lymphedema is so much easier. And as for the discoloration mine has gotta better...lightened up a lot....but the skin is still a bit tough in the areas that were the worse.

Topic: masses have virtually DISAPPEARED!
I had a duodenal switch on 2/25/09. I have lost 225 pounds (plus or minus 2 or 3 pounds, depending on fluids), and I had a very large mass on the back of my left thigh, as well as fatty/lymph deposit at the top of my left calf. That mass is still very prominent, but not as lumpy, and the large mass on the back of my thigh has softened, and has virtually disappeared!
I'm thinking that perhaps the loss of underlying fat has just made it less obvious, because my leg is still somewhat misshaped in back, and the overlying skin still has that "orange peel" texture.
My legs no longer swell, but I still have dark marks on my claves from venous stasis. My ankles are THIN, for the first time in years.
does Lymphedema ever reverse after weight loss?
Sarahlicious? Do you know anything about this?

Hi
I only went once to see a therapist to see what the options were. I read some of your story. I can relate to the pain especially when the cellulitu****s. I went for therapy in 07 so I don't know how much I will remember. The therapist was very nice and she knew what she was doing. She mostly showed me different massaging techniques, gave me tips about what lotion to use and then showed me how I would have to wrap.
I would make a suggestion, if you can take someone that you are comfortable with and who can act as a second pair of ears for you. It also might help relax you.
Have you had the surgery yet? I had mine in 06 and lost over 200 lbs. I have since gained back around 50 so I still have 100 - 125 lbs to go. The weight loss will help tremedously.
Please follow through on what ever the therapist tells you. I am sure that Amy Williams would help answer questions for you as she is the lymphedema queen and is very knowledgable.
Good luck to you. If you like you can PM me and I will send you my e-mail addie.
I really would like to hear how you make out.
Happy New Year
Jeanne

Topic: Lymphedema Therapy
I finally got a call from the theripist that works with people that have lymphedema and I have an appt set up for the 5th of January. I'm nervous about it but glad I got the call when I did since the past two weeks my legs have been more swollen than ever and it's really taking its toll on me. When I talked to the lady I asked her what kind of table she had and she said a wood one so I then tried to explain to her about me being morbidly obese but she thinks it will hold me, guess thats really the main thing i'm worried about. I don't want to get on the table and have it break or anything like that. I went ahead and bout a step stool as well since she said I would have to step up to get on the table and I wanted to make sure I have a step stool with a high weight limit on it. Anyways could someone who has had the therapy done please explain to me what exactly goes on and how long it will be before I see some results? Thanks :)
Topic: RE: Finally some relief
Good Luck with your surgery and the results of treatment. I am 1 yr. post RNY and lymphedema and down 100lb.s. I can't express how much better I feel my legs and arms are down to where I can go all the way around them in circumference and they look like raisins. Thats okay, clothes hide the bags and sags. The achy pains are gone and the rash comes and goes. As my Dr. told me as the fat goes so will the fluid which I have found to be true. I have been bad about exercising and now need to tone up because the muscles are weak. Keep us posted.
