Topic: RE: Lupus & gastric bypass
Miss Vic, I have lupus also and am waiting for a date at this time.  I see that you've already had your RNY.  At first, I wanted the Lap band, too.  I was told by my PCP that they generally look down on putting the band in someone with lupus, only because if your esophagus is involved, there could be problems (mine is not involved).  He told me I'd have to prove that my esophagus is not involved before they would do the band on me.   Then, one night I was on here and Dr. Curry was answering questions about WLS, so I asked him about lupus and the band.  He said he would not consider putting a band in me either, and then asked me if I'd ever considered the Vertical Sleeve.  I had not, and after some research it's a nother option for me to discuss with my surgeon on Dec. 13th. Good luck with your journey!! Keep in touch!! Veronica

Hey Lisa, thank you for your response.  My hematologist ran an ANA and t3, t4, and the other thyroid test as well as the CBC and full metabolic.  I'm hoping to get my results back by tuesday.  If they show to be abnormal I am going to seek out a referral to the other specialist.

Hi D. , I would recommend seeing a rheumatologist and telling him/her the issues you are having. The rheumatologist  will know which test to run to see if an autoimmune disorder is the cause of your problems. Hopes this helps.

Lisa

I've been having some severe issues over the last couple of months.  All my tests come back normal except for my iron being low and my CBC results show some lower levels but the hematologist tells me my results are not low enough to cause the severe symptoms I am having.  I want to be tested for autoimmune disease and want to know what I would ask for.  I am so worried because my eyes are now being effected.  Are there specific tests I could request?

Topic: RE: Surgery with Ulcerative Colitis?
Cindy, I have crohn's, which is awfully similar to ulcerative colitis (one step worse, from what I understand).  I was told that I could have the band, but not the bypass. However, I was also told that if I'd had ulcerative colitis and it was confirmed that it wasn't crohn's, I could have either surgery. Good luck to you. Cathy

My son was on methotrexate while he was undergoing chemotherapy.  It is, in fact, a chemo drug. Cathy

Read that you have Lupus and have had the lap band procedure done  - I am glad to hear that people with lupus are not ruled out. I am in the process of checking with my insurance to see if the procedure is covered......keep your fingers crossed:) Good luck on your weight loss journey Janie

Topic: RE: lupus /SLE w tummy tuck
I have lupus and had a breast lift and tummy tuck with muscle repair 4 months ago.  I was out of work 5 weeks and to be honest it is a very rough recovery.  The breast lift wasn't painful at all. I still have swelling in my tummy and a little soreness in the muscles, but it was worth it. I have pics on my profile. Good luck!
