Topic: RE: Does haviing Lupus help persuade insurance?
I have UCTD (undifferentiated connective tissue disease) (new doctor gave a new name to my old lupus because he's not convinced).  I'm just working on the process, so I don't really know the answer to your question but my guess is lupus will not persuade the insurance company.  While things such as joint pains due to lupus would be easier to manage with less weight, lupus is not a co-morbidity of obesity.   Then again, I'm prone to plantar faciitis.  Had surgery on my left foot in 2004 and the right foot has now been acting up for about 6-8 months.  Plantar faciitis is a connective tissue disease that overweight people get (okay, not just overweight people, but it's more common). Sorry, I probably didn't answer your question the way you would have liked.  Make sure you get your rheumatologist approval for WLS, even though lupus isn't a co-morbidity, I'm sure he/she will be willing to write a letter indicating ways that weight loss will help make your lupus more manageable. -Elli

I have BCBS Texas.  I am just paranoid that after going through the nutrition class, then the psych eval, etc....the insurance will say no.  I have lupus as a primary diagnosis.  Does it help persuade the insurance company at all?

Hi, I would also love to have the lap band. I had just recieved a letter from my Dr to summit to the insurance co,  then the unthinkable has happened to me. This wk I was told that I probally have lupus and have had it for over 10 yrs.  Orginally I was told by another Dr. that I have MS.   I had bee thinking and been treated for ten yrs with MULTIPLE  SECALORIS.The last Dr said that she is 100% certaint  that her test prove that I do not have the MS.. This is great but Knowing that it is probally lupus is also upsetting.  I am awaing for an appointment with a rhumotoligist? ( I can't spell..sorry).  I was in hopes of getting the lapband and now I don't know what to do.  If anyone has sugestions then I am listening. Please let me know what you find out.  I have gained over 100 lbs taking predisone on and off over the past 10- 12 yrs.  I know exactly how you feel! Take Care and I wish You The Very Best. Carol, I had a VSG but I get the hiccups when I am pushing it with my food intake. It is funny, I will take one bite too many then here come the hiccups. I think it is my body telling me to stop now. I do, and I have had not real problems since discovering that the hiccups mean to stop.  As fr the lupus, read my comment above and it explains what has been going on with me. Hope to get to know you! We lupies have to stick together.

Betty, I have recently had a major flare up and was put on steroids to control it some. I was only n a medrol pack, the one week course of steroids, but since then I have not been able to lose any weight! In fact, I gained weight! I have been a t a standstill for over a month now and it really upsets me. Nothing has changed, except for the steroids. I see my surgeon this week so I will ask him. Thanks for the reply. We lupies have to stick together! I know of a great support site for lupies, it is at http://lupusbutterflies.ning.com   A friend of mine named Kimberly started the site and it is great. You may want to check it out.

Topic: I had no idea...

I had no idea that there was a Lupus forum on here...I was diagnosed with Systemic Lupus when I was 20.  I am now 35.  I have not had a flair since I was 27, think goodness.  I did have to worry about my coagulation before and since my surgery...Its going to be nice to have the opportunity to talk to people that have gone through what I have gone through.

Hi Elli,
I talk to my surgeon on the 29th about different options. I have talked with a few other people about the VSG, so I am talking to my surgeon about that on the 29th. Do you have lupus too? Talk to you later, Le
